Very Unusual Buck

Post by orvet »

At this years OKCA show I had an opportunity to visit with Chuck Buck and Joe Houser. Chuck is of course the grandson Hoyt Buck, the founder of Buck knives and Joe is the Director of Consumer Relations for Buck Knives. While we were visiting Joe was straightening of the display of historical Buck knives. One of the knives had slid from its place and fallen down in the display. The frame of the knife caught my eye and I asked Joe about it. The knife was different from any other Buck knife I have ever seen. This was Joe's explanation:

In the very early days of Buck knives, Hoyt Buck made an unusual offer to the public. If anyone would send him an old knife he would replace the existing worn blade with a new Buck blade.

It was just such a knife that had caught my eye in the display. The knife had originally been a Camillus Coast Guard rope knife. The blade that had been replaced with a clip blade with a single word tang stamp: BUCK.

Here's a picture of the knife. I must apologize for the quality of the picture, but it was snapped on the spur of the moment at the show.

I thought other members here on AAPK might appreciate this piece of information.
This was something I was unaware of, but it couldn't come from a more credible source than Joe.
