Dyed and Jigged Bone

Post by btrwtr »

Here is an old Kutmaster knife that started out as a 2-blade fish knife with a scaler blade. The yellow handles had shrunk up but the knife remained mechanically intact. I had some bone in my shop that I had cut, dyed and jigged from raw white bone I purchased from a pet store. The handles were big enough for a standard trapper but they fit this 5" toothpick frame well. Oddly the backspring that was originally on the scaler blade provided better snap for the single cutting blade so I used it instead when I assembled the knife. The knife now has a bit of old time flavor now and that is what I was looking for when I dyed and jigged the bone.

That turned out beautiful Wayne. Great work on the pet store bone. A more practical knife for carrying. Great work!!!

Great job.
That’s really pretty jigging. Just the right amount of worm grooving.
And the coloring is perfect. Do you mind if I ask how you got that great contrast?

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

You did do a great job! Modern worm groove looks nowhere near as good as what you did. It has the right balance of random and pattern!
I would also love to know your dying process.
