Take a look at this knife and tell me you think about it. Shoot me straight.

I can’t make out the tang stamp (it’s out of focus in your picture), but I can tell you for sure it’s not an original old pre-WWII Remington.

It looks like a 1990's to 2000's Camillus-made Remington to me.

You said "shoot me straight", so, it sure is an ugly knife.
I agree with Rev, Camillus.

I can tell you for sure it is an original Camillus reproduction Remington Bullet knife with 1095 carbon steel blades. Camillus reproduction Remington Bullet knives either have stainless steel blades or those obviously not pre-WWII yellow & pink delrin sides. I suspect that was to prevent them being fraudulenty sold as knives made by Remington pre-WWII. Many of us are still happy with simple carbon steel blades.

Case named the bone dye on one of my Cases "salmon." Case has sold bone handled knives with a variety of orange, red, yellow and pink dyes so I wouldn't worry too much about one member not liking its color.

Did Bear & Son make some of these?

They (Camillus) made a whole line of those red/yellow handled bullet knives around 1996 to commemorate Remington's new tang stamp and the move to Madison NC. If I remember correctly it was called The New Tang Stamp Series or something like that. I believe the handles are delrin. There were quite a few made of each pattern so you see them fairly often.

Camillus made the Remington Bullet reproductions from 1983 through 2006. Camillus was a large union factory. Their last strike ended in Camillus going bankrupt in 2007. Camillus could not raise wages and compete with China. Bear & Sons made the 2007 Cheetah style swing guard lockback Remington Bullet knife and some of the more recent Remington Bullet knives. Camillus Remington Bullet reproductions faithfully duplicated pre-WWII Remington parts shapes and dimensions but in modern materials. No other company has done that. Consequently, my answer to "Did Bear & Son make some of these?" is no. Bear and Sons certainly did not make any Remington Bullet knives that could be confused with Camillus' pink and yellow carbon steel blade series.

Well, all of that is much different than what I expected to read. I expected to hear this knife has been worked over. The Main Blade says Remington inside the bullet and around the circle it says Madison N.C. USA. The Spey blade (think I got that correct) has no markings on it. No where on the knife is an R number or any number at all. Just the markings on the one side of the Master blade. Is that correct for this knife?

Yes that's correct, this is all the markings it should have.

These were different bullets. The whole series of patterns came out at the same time to commemorate the new stamp and the move to Madison. I'm not sure exactly how many patterns there were but i know they did a classic Rem. 2 blade trapper, a toothpick, a banana trapper, a single blade lockback, a daddy barlow, and your moose.

Thanks guys. A friend of mine bought this for me, I mean, he bought this for me to buy from him - all good. But I was worried he bought into a phony. This is better news than I expected.

Well, at the local Indian Territory Gun Collectors Club this evening and bought a 1990 Remington 1187 Auto / 870 Pump - I already had one in the box, but I picked this one up without the box or paper, but I got it for $47 - it is like new, don't think it was ever carried, fairly certain of that. I am happy with it.
