Hi, just wondering what era it's from, things like that, is it for a woman? What is it made of? If anyone had an idea

As the knife is stamped "to his Majesty" it has a production date of 1875-1900 per
Goin's Encyclopedia.

It has Mother of Pearl covers and would be happily owned by a man or a woman.

Thanks Joe! Should I suggest my mum insures it? She lost it years ago and recently found it again! And I thought it was quite a pretty little thing.

On the other hand being a pensioner maybe I should suggest she takes it to a dealer/antique shop and sells it. Might be a nice little buy of cash for her.

Cool knife, to AAPK! Due to its size and popularity of knives made in this pattern, I would imagine it wouldn't sell for more than $40. But, since it belongs to your mother, it would be a nice keepsake from her.

Joe, if you're right, Goins is wrong. Victoria ruled England from 1837-1901 so any Rodgers knife from that time period would say "cutlers to her majesty". With the England on the blade it had to have been made under the reign of either King Edward or either of the last two King Georges.

because I don't really know that history very well and if I ever did I have long forgotten it.

Hi Joe, glad you liked the correction! Goins as well as Levine's were written a long time ago and both contain mistakes which can be proven with more modern info. I am very surprised he made a mistake on the royal warrant marks since this was known when he wrote his magnificent book but mistakes happen. The royal warrant list is in Levine's and is accurate. Haven't seen you around the NCCA for a while, we all miss seeing you and your cool knives there.
