IXL Ivory ??

Guys,
Is this Ivory ??? if so what would an approximate value be ???

I don’t think it’s real. You can see the straight lines running the length of the handle.I’m not sure what the correct term is? I always called it faux Ivory? As far as value I couldn’t tell you? Nice knife though. Maybe a more knowledgeable person will be able to help you.

I believe it’s called French Ivory celluloid. I wouldn’t venture a guess on the value since I don’t follow IXL knives, but if it’s valued like other French Ivory knives, then it wouldn’t be a home run.

I'm not 100% certain it's French Ivory Celluloid since genuine Elephant Ivory can (and often does) have a similar "straight line" grain as well.
Here's a Cattaraugus handle that I know for a fact is Elephant Ivory:
And here is a German made Zenith with French Ivory Celluloid:
As for value: if it is in fact genuine ivory, it's impossible to determine since there are so many restrictions governing the sale of such. And to be perfectly legal you (the seller) must be able to prove legal provenance or run the risk of serious criminal penalties (fines & imprisonment) especially if the sale crosses state or country borders.
If it's French Ivory Celluloid, the value is only a question of how much you're willing to sell it for and how much someone is willing to pay for it, no more, no less.

This is helpful information, I’ll keep an eye on it as I have not bought it.
I feel that if it’s French then the seller has the value there or there abouts circa $60
But if it’s Ivory …… I feel I could make a few quid selling it legally in the UK as it’s defo Antique so here would be ok to sell.
Once again the knowledge on this site has blown me away, I learn everyday here

I also think it is French Ivory celluloid, mainly because there are gaps on each end as though it has shrunk slightly. Ivory will not shrink.
I bought an old nail file last year that I thought had an ivory handle. It had the perfect look and feel of ivory - but when I touched a hot needle to an unobtrusive spot, I quickly discovered that it was celluloid.
I don't like celluloid, but I've got to admit that they were great at making it!

I also noticed that shrinkage and the more I look at the OP knife, the more I think it is celluloid, not ivory. Would be nice to have some better photos, though.

The knife in question is a post WWII example with imitation ivory handles as shown in the catalog illustration.
Does the front of the knife have a handle shield as shown in the illustration?

Thanks bud, my suspicions are confirmed, it's magnificently beautiful.
I could even overlook the second blade on that knife should I ever see one for sale, and that's a big concession on my part.
I had no idea there were things that beautiful in this world.

the lines in the handle are dead straight,,,,an indicator of faux ivory,,,,real ivory has vines like a tree and never straight!! Also vintage ivory will turn unevenly yellowish....this one is a solid color...Hope that helps....
