Hi Folks,

I have a knife in my shop that survived a fire. Has some sentimental value to the owner so We are trying to see if we can salvage it. There is a makers mark on it of 2 crossed fish. It's believed to be commercially made . Does anyone know the maker with a crossed fish stamp?

Thanks

Ross

Per Goin's
Joseph Allen & Sons, Sheffield England c1864-1953
used the symbol of 2 crossed fish in 1880 and manufactured "Bowie" type knives

Hope that helps

Interesting. Thanks all! I'm told this knife had stag handles and it had copper pins that I cut off it when it arrived in my shop.

Thought I'd post some progress shots. I was able to reheatreat the blade and it came out functional, passed rhe brass rod test meaning I could slide it over a brass rod and the metal deflects and goes back in place and doesn't chip. It's a carbon steel of some type. Cleaned up well imo, some small pitting left but I didn't dare grind more off so I didn't lose the blade all together.

Just needs handles now and it's done.
