Am I right that Case did NOT make a stag handle 80 model whittler--There is a beautiful 5380 XX carpenters whittler for sale on ebay at this present time. A MUST SEE.

Case didn't clothe the 80 in stag. ::td::

Correct . Case never made a stag 80 pattern in the pre-1980 eras. IIRC there was an 5380 made in the 80's as part of a special edition whittler set. Counterfeits turn up on fleabay occasionally and some fool is separated from their cash.

Yea, there was a 5380 Stag Carpenter's Whittler with Scrolled Bolsters made for the three piece Stag Whittler's Set. Looking at it right now. The other knives in the set included a 5383 and a 5308.

Those were from the eighties though not the XX era.

For posterity, here are some of the seller’s pictures from the listing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/234381532675?h ... Sww2Fh5c9f

Note the crudely stamped pattern number, rounded ends on the E and X’s, and indications of a shaved tang, where the end of the shoulder grind line curves upward near the blade spine (happens when metal is grinded off the tang to remove the original stamp). Inletting of the stag around the shield placement is crude also.

Eee gads, looks like Packy Stan did the stag to boot!
::barf:: ::barf:: ::barf::

Nice cold stamped mark and randomly stamped pattern number, just like Case never did. ::mdm::
