The answer lies in what "gentlemanly" means to you.
I think one's behaviour matters more that what knife you carry. If you behave in a polite respectful manner then you will not use the knife you carry in any inappropriate way.

However, if you need a knife that you are not ashamed of, to pick your teeth with, at the church picnic, it should be manual open, bone handled and smaller than your index finger; anything more and you are a hoodlum.

Last Sunday, I was in church (we were celebrating Veteran's Day early). A "Brown Water Sailor" (a 'brother from another mother') asked to borrow a knife. I quickly opened and presented to him my beautiful Bat Cave Sendoa. He used it for the intended purpose and promptly returned it. Neither of us batted an eyelash. The resident church pianist said, "Now THAT'S a knife"! I slid the blade back into my front slacks pocket and went on about my business.
Not all of our church members are "sheeple". Some of us have lived long enough and seen enough to deal with life and know when a threat is real.

Old sailors like us deal with life and move right along.

That sure got my attention as I rushed forward to check it out. And sure enough he was holding a press button! The bidding and ending was $10! No sweat, brother. I'm closing in on 67 (Dec,1st. 6:30 am PST). The old "only hoodlums/punks carry 'switchblades" pejorative died in the State of Oregon in 1984. (It was then the RKBA then rightly superseded the Leftist narrative).
