Hello, found this knife in a box in an old turn of the century house. best I can read it says CASE in big capital letters with an X under. and on other side the only thing I can make it is it says 087. I've found similar ones online but the emblem on the handle is different then those online. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hello & ::welcome:: to the AAPK. We're glad you came! ::nod::

Go up the top of this page. Check under "Research" to find out the pattern number. Also look here https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/co ... ification/ to figure out what stamp you have. The stamp then tells you how old your knife is. I hope this is a bit helpful. ::handshake:: ::tu::

Maybe someone else will come by with some better answers. ::nod::

Hope to see ya around. ::tu:: :D

Tom

Awesome thank you, yes looks like its a stockman pre 1940s. anyone know what it may be worth ? The blades have been well used for sure, the handle is in pretty good shape, and the blades are pretty tight no wiggle to them and smooth opening closing.

Thanks again

I have no idea as to the value but I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable will be along soon. Do you plan on selling it or are you just curious? ::shrug::

I'm just curious. ::nod::

cool thanks, both really I do plan to sell just doing my homework on it. I had no idea old knives like this were so collectable, kicking my self for all the times I passed over them in garage sales in the past, won't do that again.
Thanks

Collectability also means condition, condition, condition. Sadly since your example is in poor condition it will not fetch much when selling. Cool to find for sure.

I kind of figured as much but still cool to learn more about it, will put on Ebay and see where it goes. Will definitely start keeping my eyes open for knives when I'm out picking around area.

Thanks again

The knife is a 23087 Sh Pen, small stockman. Great EDC pattern. The CASE XX stamp dates it to post-WWII to 1964. Smooth black composition handles.

Thank you, a little confused on the date though based on the link TPK sent earlier on the stamp identification. according to that info if the stamp were post WW11 the XX would be after the word CASE and not below it is that not correct ?

Thanks

no worries, like I said just doing my homework on it. Already learning a ton about this little knife. You should of seen the house we pulled it out of, it still had gas fixtures but was about knee deep in horder garbage, had 1940s calendars still hanging in the walls. pretty crazy, found a lot of cool stuff in it, though, some 1800s things.

Well, if theres one thing that everybody here likes, it's pictures. ::nod:: If you feel like chatting about the cool things you found, and I'm sure you found some really cool stuff in that house, you can post some pictures of it here. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=23880&start=8220 ::tu:: We'd love to see it! ::tu::  ::nod::

Welcome to AAPK. The link Tom gave you shows this:

1940-1964 (some say 1945 – 1964)

Your knife has some condition issues so does not have a lot of value. Condition is paramount in value of old knives. Maybe $30-40 or so would be my estimate. But it should be a great user. Those blades have great steel. ::tu::

TPK, we found a lot of old stuff in the house, lots of old antique furniture that we had redone, old foot operated sewing machines, old toys (cast iron ones), very old letters written in German (the family were German immigrants) dating as far back as the 1800's. We found an old steamer trunk under all the junk, in it we found several things that were old "keepsake" type items including a box that was full of arrowheads including a quartz arrowhead which are very rare and even more rare an Indian arrowhead made out of metal (Indians used to make arrows out of metal they traded or stole from the Spaniards). The ranch the old house is on is really cool as well, its over 1000 acres has an old gold mine at least two old homestead sites, lots of cool stuff, one area that were pretty sure was an Indian camp and were still finding things. see pics of the arrowheads, I added them to my collection.

Those are very cool finds Buddy! 8) There is a cool thread here about arrowheads if you care to look through it and add your arrowhead pictures to it. The link is here below this post.

You seem to be a friendly fellow. ::tu:: Why not keep your knife & take up the hobbie of knife collecting? You can hang out around the AAPK & talk about knives ect. There are threads about all kinds of stuff. The "Outdoors", cars, guns, plants, diecast, Zippo's, arrowheads ect., ect. Give it a thought. Keeps ja busy in times of Corona. Lotta great people here, always room for one more. ::nod:: ::tu::

Here the arrowhead thread link.:

TCGB,
Tom

P.S. Did you know that the company Zippo owns Case Cutlery? ::nod::

Edit: Almost forgot to mention it, another plus for you, there are a good number of forum members who live in Texas. About 7-million. ::woot:: ::nod::  ::paranoid:: OK, not that many but there are ::hmm:: at least 5. ::nod::

Just for the record, quartz arrowheads are common in New England, and the natives did not make iron arrowheads from metal from the Spanish. The only metal points made by north American natives were the copper culture points from native copper in Michigan. Any iron points were made by whites for trade to natives, the natives did not have the ability to work iron or steel. Some brass points were made from scraps of white man's material but not iron.
