All About Pocket Knives

I am interested in this knife but the center pin looks a little strange to me. Sort of mushroomed like a rivet. Just wondering if all looks well to you guys. Thanks, Kelley

Actually its suppoose to be "mushroomed" or peened. otherwise it wouldn't do its job holding the handles to the liners and the liners to the backsprings.

Kelley, It looks good to me also, looks like they have cleaned a little and some cleaning material around the pin you question causeing it to look a little strange. Nice USA 47!

looks good to me too. i saw it earlier and was going to put it on my watch page but unfortunately for me im over my spending limit currently . anyway, its a good looking knife....good luck on it!

They actually "spin" the backspring pin (and many times the cover pins); to cause this mushrooming. It eliminates the need to "peen" so hard that a pin crack may occur. You can take you a smooth bit (used shaft) and convex the end to create a "bowl" shape and use it for this purpose. Be sure to harden it a little. Slap it in your drill press and start spinning.

Thanks LC, I was hoping to pick it up a little bit cheaper, but I wanted it so I put a pretty high max on it and hoped for the best! lol! I don't buy my knives for resale anyway, I buy them to fondle.... Smoke

I'll remember you when I get to the point of not being interested in RedBone........... might be a while though Just picked up a couple 70's RedBone off the bay real cheap can't wait to get in from work and see if there are any problems with them none were in discription keep ya posted Sounds like this place needs a R.T.........Round Table
