Ok I know it's not a Bowie knife but it is a common enough description I thought I would run with it.

It's A Mappin And Webb Stamped for the old factory in Sheffield so 1890's ish

Oh it is next to a Case Elephant toe (for obscure reasons)

Very cool knives! I really love that Mappin & Webb and will have to hunt for one (no pun intended). Of course I love the Case toe knife too, but I have several of them. Thanks for posting! ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::

I would agree that the handles are likely checkered horn. There were some English knives that used a synthetic material that looked for all the world like checkered horn but I think this knife has real horn.

I think there was a folder in your knife haul we were looking at today, Herb. ::nod::

Both very nice pieces jaydar! ::tu:: The button on your bowie appears to be elevated above the handle, and the black dot in the middle of the blade looks like a catch-hole, is it an automatic knife? ::shrug:: Thanks! 8) ::welcome:: to the forum, BTW!
