i don't think a double stamp is common in any year. knife is heavilly buffed, nail nick looks wrong, and seller is questionable.

JMO, but if I see a double stamp like that, I do expect to see that the 2 stampings match each other, these don't.

By low sell high. Don't tell all.

Do I have to say more???... ::td:: ::td::

not to comment on the originality of this knife, but I have several, probably 10 of 1978-79 case knives that my grandfather purchased new, and they are all double stamped, I don't think that quality control was the greatest at that time period

Hello all, I can't see what he would be trying to hide it is a two dot 1978, both stamps say the same thing two dot. I can't think that anyone would fake a two dot for a two dot. jmo.

I don't know that a double stamped knife is a bad thing, I kinda like 'em. I know alot of collectors that see them as a rare and desirable factory error. I have even seen them bring more money than usual examples. I have also seen quite a few that had one stamp with thicker letters on one stamp and thinner ones on the other stamp. My guess is the tang was hit by two different stamps.

Forget the stamps! The knife has been cleaned and buffed. If a seller of a lot of knives doesn't tell the truth, what else is he hiding??? He SHOULD know better, and probably does!!

I totally appreciate your comments on double-stamps, Gary. I just felt the thread might encourage someone to go for that knife for the wrong reasons. I hate it when someone here gives money to some con man!

After reflection, I was also concerned that my initial post might have been somewhat incomplete, as I was speaking generally and not about this particular knife. Thanks for your concern Charlie, you are one of the good ones.
Best,
Gary
