All About Pocket Knives

Greg has been generous in giving me 2 2nd gen Camillus 72 beaters so I can repair a first gen that I have. He sent me two because they had handle issues on opposite sides. That way I can two nice handles for my 1st gen. Thanks Greg! Any way I noticed that one had a pin crack at the rocker pin. since that was the only issue on the one knife I thought I would take a shot a repairing the crack.
I carefully spread the crack and used some zap a crack. Taped in place while it dried. After it set I used a 3M pad to smooth area and low and behold!Crack gone! I love it when things go according to plan!

That's a real fine job Randy!! I doubt I could even spot it unless I knew there was a crack there before and was actively searching for it.

i got a few bone handle knives and i was just wondering if i should clean them if the handle is really bad? i don't want to take away any aging because the knives are beautiful the way they are except for the dirt from wear, oh by the way nice job!

ricknra if your bone handles are dirty try an old tooth brush and some a drop of Dawn dish soap in a cup of water and scrub away. Should come out nice! Then dry and lubricate and you should be good to go!All this does is remove any layered dirt that has built up over the years! Post a picture of your knife or knives if you get a chance. We love pictures!

May be too late but as an extra measure to prevent re cracking flip to the back take a dremel tool with a thin cutter an cross the crack with a coulpe of lines use superglue an ivory dust finer the better an fil in both line accross the back side of the crack an re-sand flat ,it adds stabelization so when you re pin it its way less likely to re-crack out also once its back on the liner drill out the hole an make sure its liner on pin not offset to make it bone against pin , t

Thanks for tip! This handle never came off of the liner. To make the crack stable and disappear I used a technique that I learned from a luthier in Hangtown many years ago. I clean the crack with alcohol and dry. I spread some zap a crack on the crack. I stress the crack just a bit to open it up then blow the zap a crack into the crack with compressed air and then tape it down tight until it sets. Clean it up with a 3M pad and buff! That repair with the proper glue has saved many a cracked guitar neck! That got my attention and its the method that use on knives when ever feasible!
