All About Pocket Knives

This is a knife I customized for a customer. It started as a Case 6207, Mini-Trapper, with bone handles.
My customer wanted a single blade with olive green linen micarta handles.

This was the first time I had inlet a shield in linen micarta, it was a pain and took several hours to get it right. The edges like to fray when you cut it with a Foredom burr, but I learned something so it will be easier & faster next time.

The finish was another problem to be solved; he did not want the micarta raw, nor did he want a glossy slick finish but something with a little grip. I did some experimenting and did a hand rubbed epoxy finish.

I was happy with the results and more importantly, so was my customer.

Nice one Dale, very impressive! I like that the pins are visible on the shield, gives it a very sturdy look. The coloring and texture of the micarta almost gives the scales a "snake skin" type of look...I like it a lot!

You are right Mike, it looks like snake skin to me too.
Normally I buff down the shield pins, but I could not do that with the micarta handles, buffing would ruine the finish on the micarta.

It is really not difficult. You just cut the pins and remove the pin blade, pin blade spring and the center liner and reassemble it without them after putting on the new handles and inletting and pinning the shield.

I have recently done a few knives with micarta, and you're right, they are different to work on.

I have this Case Wharncliffe Mini-Trapper with ugly chartreuse bone handles (about the color of a bass bait)...
