At least this time I remembered to take some before pics!

I bought this knife 3 or 4 years ago at the OKCA show. It has set in my shop waiting for me to get time & the handle material to repair it.
I started it before Christmas and finished it up last night.

It had black composition handles that had shrunk and warped even pulling out some of the handle pins.
The blades were in excellent shape and the only issue I saw with it was the shrinking, warping handles.

I got some black bone with RV jigging from Culpepper’s for the handles. I took the knife apart and cleaned it thoroughly.
I reassembled it and was pleased with the results, except that one of the pieces of bone turned a deep red-maroon color when hafted.
Bone being a natural product can vary a great deal. The handle on the back side remained mostly black.
I wish I had put that piece on the front, but you never know what will happen with the bone until you install it and haft it. ::shrug::
Aside from that it turned out great.

It will make someone a fantastic hunting knife!

Nice rehandle Dale. I like the black bone.
You see a lot of factory knife handles with a slight different in colour.

Beautiful job Dale, that handle looks like it was done at the factory, top notch! ::tu::

Lots of dye jobs are done with two or even three separate colors applied at different intervals to achieve the final color. Most likely the top color on the mark side didn't penetrate as deeply. I really like it, gives it some depth.

Very nice mod, Dale! The choice of the bone goes well with that knife. And like someone else said, the mark side and pile side covers are often different colors or textures.

Another beauty!
