Info on Hen & Rooster

As a new collector (accumulator?) of pocket knives, I've become impressed with the Hen & Rooster offerings, but can find little if any info on them. Is there a way to determing carbon vs. stainless if the blades are not stamped? Does the model number help? For example, I have a 353C DS serpentine stockman with out any blade or box markings denotin stainless or other. Also, how are they regarded, generally? Any other information on them would also be appreciated, as all my internet queries have come up pretty empty. Thanks

In many people's opinion, these were the best of the German made knives up until the Bertram factory closed in 1980. Now, they still seem to be nice knives, made to Frost's (who owns the mark) standards. If your knife is pre-1980, I believe it would be marked Bertram on one of the tangs, as well as having the Hen and Rooster.

It LOOKS like the C denotes carbon on the newer knives, but you might call them and ask.

Thanks, I appreciate the info, and I've sent off my questions to Frost. As for the other German firms, Eye, Boker, etc. - any opinion on the quality of these offerings? Again, I am new to the addiction, and the research is half the fun. Thanks!
