Very nice. Now that's a workknife! Some of these sunfish knives are so over exaggerated to look like a parody of a knife, but that one just looks like something a big fisted Swede would use to cut heavy rope on a Titusville oil rig.

Nice old knife. I think closer to the 1902 date than the 1940 date.

The bone handled one is nice, The 2 pearl HSB's are fake. They are made out of left over Cattaraugus parts.HSB toes were either made by Camillus or New York Knife. Both are 4 1/4" and had double pulls. Some late Camillus had a single long pull. Also I have never seen a Camillus or HSB with original pearl scales.
The same seller, has several nice toes for sale. A couple of rare hard to find marks, a Romo and a AJ Jordan.

......the pearl ones are nice, but I think the old rogers bone is the best handle mat'l. ever put on a knife, especially a sunfish!!!.....

I couldn't help but to notice your post. I see a number of sunfish pattern knives opened just like that. It seems like it places a lot of stress on the single spring. No doubt tough old knives but why put extra wear on them.

I posted a picture of a knife some years ago in a similar way. Someone corrected me about it and I immediately saw the light.
It may not break a spring but it might break a spring.

I found this and it sure did make a believer out of me. Maybe the sunfish pattern is particularly susceptible.

Ouch!
That's too bad on that nice old folder.
Looks like it may not have had the best of care.

Certainly a shame. That knife deserved much better than that. That pic was posted on Facebook in a group.

This one was in a lot or group of pocket knives that I bought and it came like this.
I apologize for posting it here. It most definitely is NOT a CAMILLUS.

It's very similar on Rough Rider or Marbles. I just started reading a thread on the bladeforum a couple of days ago about the Rough Rider (~300 pages), they have a lifetime warranty, if it's their knife write to them and they will send you a new knife. Visible by the split spring and the notch inside the nail hook
On December 24th last year when I turned 38, a friend gave me a Sunfish from Marbles. I was hooked! I've never had this pattern before, it fills the hand so nicely. I sharpened it yesterday, the steel on the big blade really looks like 440A, but on the small blade it's much softer, most likely 420
Unfortunately, where I live, there is no opportunity to go to garage sales, there are no good auctions, only 2 flea markets, the only quality knives here are old Solingen ones. Normal knives can be bought only on the Internet
I caught this fish with the help of a friend from LA. I wonder how to tell if it's a three-line or a four-line stamp? The bottom of the tang never comes out from behind the bolster. I just started studying and reading these topics. It turns out, judging by the hallmarks, it was made between 1919 and 1946. It will not be clear yet whether there is a 4th line in the hallmark? If there is no 4th line, then it is 1919-1932?

When he arrives, I'll take a closer look. I wonder if this seller is here? He very kindly showed the knife from all sides and even pointed out a crack in the scale

Nice Knife
You should be able to tell what stamp you have when you get it . There are 2 different early 3 line stamps. Took a pic for you to see them . If it’s a 4 line it’s early a one .
You did well . They’re getting hard to find and purchase, many are in collections.
Please post when you get it .

That Rough Rider went bye bye, back in March 2024.
VERY NICE CAMILLUS!
