All About Pocket Knives

I bought some smooth bone handles that are only 1/8" wide. I'd like to give them the saw cut bone look, but they are very narrow now and it will be hard to run them through any kind of saw. Is there any tool you can use or put on a Dremel to imitate the saw bone look? If these were thicker I think this would be easy to do, but just not much to work with as they are. I tried a wire brush and it doesn't do anything. I would appreciate suggestions.

I've done it before with a paint paddle, two sided tape and a disc sander. Fortunately I had more than one set to play with because it took a couple of tries to get it to look right. Maybe practice with some hardwood slabs first? Let us know how you do and good luck!

What grit sanding disk???
I would imagine it would be quite a coarse grit to give it that saw cut look?
I did it once before with wood, using a power miter box with an extremely worn blade but had a lot of material to work with.

It was coarse. Something like 60 or maybe 80 if memory serves. I may have even used 40. It's been a while and I'd have to practice before I tried it again. It's just been easier to order the sawcut and sand it to thickness from the back that I've never bothered with it again.

at least 60 grit disk on a bench mounted disk sander (36 is better, then do a little rubbing with 400 to give it the old pocket worn look, then dye) . Hold it in the position shown to achieve desired results. different angles make the scratches angle in different directions. As with anything experimentation is one of the best things I can suggest because the possibilities are nearly endless if you play around with materials, angles, grits ect. This one was done with a very worn 60 grit disk (what I happened to have on the machine at the time)

Thank you for posting this. I got a bit impatient and found a real coarse rasp and tried to do one set of handles with it. I got the deep striated lines I was going for, but the pattern doesn't look saw cut or uniform at all. I am going to try to duplicate your results on the disc sander.
