from what i understand, the straight-bolstered version was a test run - very few were made.

I did it! … I resisted! ... I did not run out and buy the rare and coveted straight-bolstered Calf Roper … ! … but then I picked up another 62 whittler and a half congress …

Well other than the bolsters and the etch (I wish they would quit that) they are the same.
I'd really like to see a punch on this pattern...
