You better be on the fast train North! My wife made 2 pies last evening, 1 was the Peach/Blackberry and it is more than half gone. The plain Blackberry may still be here by the time you arrive.

Waukonda wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2024 6:46 pm Thanks, Garry, and John. It is not only Blackberry time here, but the peaches are also ripe. My favorite pie, hands down, is a Peach and Blackberry cobbler. Some of these berries will go into a cobbler, and the rest will be eaten with yogurt. The next couple of rounds that I pick will be frozen.
Good looking berries, my wife's favorites.
Let's see the set up. The birds eat the few I've tried raising . I'm with you on the cobblers, the very ones Mommy made.

Great story and pictures Woodwlker.

Thanks Eustace for the pictures. That's a large place!

Didn't know where else to post this little "Upcycling" project. I haven't had a nightstand for the past 20 years or more.
Thought I'd like to have one now so I took an old wooden wine crate, some scrap wood for the feet, a cutting board for the top & an old jar that I put a rooster on (for a trash can) with decoupage technique. It turned out pretty nice. I like it. ::nod:: ::tu::

Thanks Buddy! ::handshake:: ::super_happy::

::nod:: The rooster. ::nod:: I've been putting roosters & chickens on a bunch of stuff now that I figured out how easy it is to do. ::nod::

1) Just slap some clear varnish on a (for example) flower pot,
2) then put a napkin picture on top of the clear varnish,
3) then add a top coat of clear varnish making sure the napkin becomes totaly saturated with varnish
4) and you paint it from the center of the napkin going out towards the edges trying to get out all the air bubbles.
5) Let it dry. Done.

Tips:

1) The flower pots can't have a beer belly form. Of course they are round but not round & with a beer belly form. I did one beer belly formed glass with a small set of chickens & it turned out ok but you have to make several cuts into the edges of the napkin & overlap the edges while adding the varnish. Gets a little messy on the fingers & only works well with small pictures.

2) White glass, clear glass or colored/tinted glass gives the best results. ::nod:: Dark colored glass kind of takes away from the pictures added to it.

Till now, I have done mostly flower pots & vases so I'll do a "Tutorial" post in the "plants" thread latter on today (I hope) and show you all some of the other stuff I've done. ::nod:: ::tu::

Did somebody say peach cobbler? They broke the world record last week here at the Parker County Peach Festival with a 5,790 lb peach cobbler. I guess I should have grabbed my bowl and spoon and drove over there.

On a recent trip to North Dakota and South Dakota, I saw mile after mile of roadside that had been mowed and baled. Rather than cut the grass and let it go to waste, they roll it up to be used for cattle feed. Makes perfect sense to me.

I thought so too Tom.
Wasn’t anyone around to ask any questions. I am hoping they have the tracks. 🤔

Years ago when we were in the cow business, we thought about bailing some roadside Bahai grass. We were informed by several older heads that it would not be a good idea for several reasons. They said the residue from vehicle exhaust would contaminate our "free" hay crop. Also we would possibly contribute to hardware disease by unintentionally baling bits of metal, cans, plastics and glass commonly found on public right of ways. Back then, in the late '70s, we scrambled around and bailed about anything that could be made palatable use of hot mineral lick.
I can see a lot of uses for bailed right of way grass without feeding it to cattle.
Just a comment from an old feller almost over the hill. :)

Philco they was doing that when I traveled out that way back in 2012. Like you say it makes sense.
I noticed on my little trip to Illinois this past week that there and Ky. they have cut a swath next to the highway and are letting the rest of the median grow up. I kinda hope they come back and cut it, just looks ugly to me. Some places they planted wild flowers and I'm cool with that. ::handshake::
