The other morning, I posted a comment about our mower in the 1st Cup Diner about the blades.
We have a lot of grass to cut and there is always something going on when mowing, stuff just happens. Thought I'd share pictures of the blades that wore out maybe with 10-12 hours of use. Bought this mower a month or so back, also bought an extra set of blades, sharp blades are necessary the way I see it. Ran the stock blades for a few mowings and at 10 hours, serviced the more as per the instructions, oil change, grease, etc., also put on the extra set of blades and sharpened the originals, ready for use when the others got dull. Went a few more days mowing around the place and also mowing at the church, so I changed the blades out again. The original set gave up the ghost the other day, slung off one of the "wings" on one blade, the others were close to wearing off also. Here's what the original set looked like, the mower only had 23 hours on it and only half that time with this set of blades: The next couple of pictures shows the danger of cutting next to a dried Blackberry bush: Treefarmer

Philip, your hand looks a lot like mine often used to look. Seems like I’m always bumping, scraping, or cutting my hands and arms on something while mowing. I’ll be bleeding and don’t even know when/how it happened. Busted knuckles from working on equipment is another plague. So I usually wear leather work gloves, and have for years worn long sleeved shirts. Protects me from effects of sun also.

As for the blades, I’ve never seen anything like that after just 20+ hours of use. Unless you’re mowing in rocks they should not separate like that. I don’t have any experience with Husqvarna blades. I use Excel brand blades on my zero-turn mowers, which are hardened steel and typically need resharpening after about 50 hours or so. I’ve seen wear on the back edges but not separation like yours have. I’d say that separation presents a real danger situation - if one of those pieces come off (looks like it did on one) at the high speeds of a mower blade it would severely damage anything or anyone hit by it.

Man, Treefarmer.....slinging off hunks of steel is no bueno. Never seen that before.

I've had a couple of close calls with mowers slinging out rocks, but have never seen the blades separating like that. Especially after such a short time.

I replaced the blades on my Bad Boy mower after 3 seasons. I live on a VERY rocky ridge - I hit a lot of rocks and sticks. After 3 seasons, the blades were worn and dull, but nothing like yours.

Mine split similar to that, for us the sand eats them up fast( not that fast).

I think I'd take those blades back to the dealer and see what, if anything, they would do about it. No way they should be flying apart like that. As others have said, that's very dangerous.

Dang Farmer I ain't never seen anything like that, I like you have been cutting grass for many years I've hit some things and bent blades badly but that's a new one me and I've own several cheap murray mowers back in the day. I'm with Philco that needs to be returned to the dealer that's a safety hazard.

The blades are stamped made in USA, the mower is a new Husqvarna Z 254F, a 54 " zero turn.
We have no rocks, there is always sand and mixed grasses where we mow. I do mow some overgrown grass now and then, areas around the fish ponds and around the deer feeder but my goodness, we've only run this mower a total of 25 hours, alternating 2 sets of blades.
A call to the dealer is right place to start as some of Y'all have suggested. The extra set of blades I bought are not showing that sort of wear. Obviously the original blades are made of some junk steel, kinda like some knife blades

He is a new one to me but I am guessing he is some sort of asp or maybe a jig for fishing???

According to my on-line search results that critter is the larvae of acronicta americana. Aka the American Dagger Moth. The “bristle hairs” have toxins that cause a stinging sensation and cause a rash. T.F. In the past, it’s said that whenever a Gurkha unsheathes his kukri, it must draw blood. If the kukri doesn’t draw the blood of an adversary, the wielder would draw his own blood. Is that what happened here? Is this a sort of extension of that The Gurkha tradition somehow extend to mower blades?

We call 'em asps here and believe me they have a painful sting. I brushed one off my bare tummy and it hurt so bad I was seeing spots and I nearly passed out.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood, well the answer is his woodchucking days are over, me and the ole 20 gauge took care of business once again.
I got up a few minutes ago to get another cuppa joe and looked out the kitchen window and low and behold this Rascal wuz Messing with the bird feeders. I slipped out the backdoor with murder on my mind and this is the result. The buzzard will feast in a bit.

Congrats bighomer. I swore off shotguns when a good size groundhog took both barrels of 12 gauge number 4 shot, accurately placed, and still managed to struggle off into the tall grass.

Visited with a Nam vet for a wonderful lunch prepared by his wife. He had, literally not figuratively, scores and scores of firearms of every type: revolvers, semi-autos, long guns with short barrels and long guns with long barrels. There is no gun store in this area that has as numerous and varied selection of firearms.

He rides this beautiful Honda with a side-car manufactured in KY. You can completely stretch out in the cab; extremely comfortable.
