We were up in Springfield yesterday, and couldn't resist a stop at the Cozy Dog, one of old Route 66's most iconic and well known eateries.

Ahh Cozy Dog! The self proclaimed originator of the corn dog on old US 66 no less!

Springfield also lays claim to the Home of the Horseshoe sandwich at D'Arcy's Pint.

We were at D'arcys on our previous visit to Springfield.

Cool pictures, didnt realize Tullahoma had such a thing, but it has been many years since I traveled thru there. Top picture with the clouds near his mouth looks as if he is exhaling smoke.
I have a friend of many years who lived the first few years of his life in Tullahoma. His parents packed up the family and moved to Detroit in the 50's for work in one of the assembly plants, part of the great.migration.

Cozy Dog looks like a really cool old ‘50’s style diner. But I guess no one told them the corn dog originated in Texas in 1926 (patent issued in 1928) and was sold commercially by Carl Fletcher at the Texas State Fair in 1936. It’s been a Texas State Fair tradition ever since. The Fletcher family still sells hundreds of thousands of them at the fair every year.

Another iconic eatery on old Route 66 is Ted Drewes frozen custard in Saint Louis. Home of “The Concrete”. Frozen so solid the server hands it to you upside down.

Aha! Now we have a real corn dog dilemma, as nobody told the Texans that the Pronto Pup pre-dates the Corny Dog, and then so.eone in Buffalo predated those, and it goes on back to 1927 according to rhe following link

My Grandparents on my Father's side had a "Pronto Pup" wagon and took it around the midwest selling Prontos. I remember being a very young tiddler and waiting in line to have Grandma hand me down a dog like I was a regular customer.

Maggie and I have had a hard time finding good corn dogs, so we make them at home using good dogs and Maggie's own cornmeal coating recipe. Yum!!

I don't think Cozy Dogs are the best by any means, and have always been skeptical of the origination claim. They aren't bad, but could be better.

We paid $8 apiece for two "corndogs" at a local carnival recently and they were hardly worth eating.

3 1/2 hours on the mower today in 100 degrees. I was wearing goggles, a N95 mask, and a cap. Wife thought it was funny. Ahter said I smelled "earthy".
I think I will look for a job in the coal mines so I don't have to get so dirty.

I don’t know what part of Texas you are in but up here around lake Texoma area the humidity is killer this week. 84% this morning , yesterday was in the 70% range. The shop I work in is miserable, no air flow to speak of and cars running making it hotter on top of that. Drink plenty of fluids and remember to cool off when you can.

Mike, my mowing gear sounds like the same as yours, - goggles and N-95 mask - but I wear a wide-brim hat and long pants, usually a long-sleeve shirt. The pants and shirt this time of year are lightweight rip-stop wicking polyester. I learned my lesson several years ago when I got “environmental pneumonia” from all the dust. Took about a month to get over it. Since then I wear a mask and goggles.

I’m in north Texas too. (Been known to make an occasional trip to Denison for catfish at Huck’s. Used to go to Arlene’s or across the dam to Windy’s too). Really high humidity here the past three days, with heat index reaching 113 - 115 even thought the actual temps are low-90s. Yesterday I was using a weed/brush cutter. At 3 PM I was totally sweat soaked, overheated, and feeling faint despite all the water I was drinking. The humidity was so bad the sweat wasn’t evaporating. I quit and sat down in the shade for about 30 minutes, then decided to just hang it up for the day. This morning was a lot better working conditions, at least until around noon. Today I quit before it got so bad, and retired to the a/c inside the cab of a tractor.

Ken, I live a few miles outside of Weatherford. I usually do all the weed-eating and mowing on one day, but it has been so hot I broke it up into two days. Mowing one day (in shorts) and weed-eating the next morning (Wranglers). Those weed-whackers tear up my shins if I don't wear long pants.

I mow the yard around the house every week in the summer, and it only takes about 15-20 minutes. But I mow the larger property about once a month, and it take about 3 1/2 hours. Lots of trees, lots of rocks, lots of dust, and lots of elevation change.

It's so dusty - I hate blowing away all my top soil, but the weeds get so high it really needs to me mowed.

Bought these pens to use at work.
My daughter already snagged the purple one off of me, my wife wants the hot pink one & I am going to give the green one to one of the guys at work who loves anything that's green.

Leaving me with:

White
Blue
Copper
Grey
Black
& I can't find the word for off green

Oh yeah, it's turquoise! Haven't used that word for a long time.

I have a bunch of pens myself. I'm a stickler for a good writing pen. One of my pet peeves is a bad pen that blots or vanishes during writing.

MG, I have been very disappointed to learn that many school systems no longer teach cursive handwriting. I used to have reasonably good writing until ballpoint pens were introduced in 4th grade. What type of writing instrument is your favorite: ball point, rollerball, or fountain pen?

I'm with you MG. Bad pens drive me nuts & end in the trash very fast.

On the hwy yesterday I spotted this car advertising Red Bull. I couldn't get a side view shot but the sides were highly stylized. On back and top rode a huge can of Red Bull.
