Trees are not turning colors here yet. Some are dropping leaves due to drought though. But it’s early, trees here typically reach peak color about mid-November to Thanksgiving. Then about a week later they are bare.

Some time ago, I wanted a decent EMT/Paramedic figure.

GI Joe did a few firefighters with extrication tools and/or medical equipment; but it was quite limited. 21st Century Toys had an EMT with basically any required piece of BLS medical equipment. Both tend to be pricey, and it seems doubled during the pandemic. Five Below had some EMS figures, but they were very poorly made junk. I think I saved some of the accessories (still need to find the clipboard that came with the nurse), and that was it.

Barbie introduced a paramedic doll, but they used the petite frame; and a rather unique skin tone. I purchased one at the full $10 MSRP, and a second during a Black Friday special. I was limited basically to only using a very expensive "Looks" doll if I wanted something that would fit and still be 12-inch scale.

However, I ended up making do with what I had. I had two Breyer riders, Taylor and Laura, that I'd picked up originally as accessories to my 1:9 Breyer Traditional horses. I also had a 1:9-1:12 scale Stryker-style stretcher, two defibrillators, as well as a large number of smaller accessories, some repurposed from Laura's vet gear, some Playmobil, some random figures I'd picked up before.

So, I gave the Barbie dolls to a neighbor's grandkid, and swapped out the clothing from the Breyer riders. The clothing is a little baggy, but due to the small feet on a Petite Barbie, the duty boots fit the Breyer riders better than the flimsy, thin boots they had originally.

(Laura still uses the pants that came with the figure originally). Because the black "stretch" pants fit the Barbie doll so tightly, they fit properly on a Breyer rider.

The equipment was largely pieced together from stuff I bought on impulse.

The stretcher in Stryker colors is sold as the Ringside Collectibles Deluxe Folding stretcher; for use as a wrestling figure accessory. Another company markets it for eight-inch figures in white/blue. However, it scales well with any figure measuring between six (1:12 ) and eight (1:9) inches tall.

The stretcher can be raised or lowered (and it sort of locks into place), the cot rails can be lowered, and the head of the cot, for some reason, is spring-loaded. It also has rolling casters, but they aren't exactly round.
The defibrillators are Japanese capsule toys made by Bandai. They are the only defibrillators for 1:6-ish scale that were ever made. I had been shocked at the $25-30 prices from Hong Kong and Japan-based sellers, but finally, I found an eBay seller here in the States that specialized in Japanese capsule toys, and didn't want much--$8 each, but they were blind packed.

I wanted the model with EKG ability (as many fire departments use those in favor of the MUCH more expensive monitor/defibrillators), but ended up with two basic ones.
And they both even have a packet with the electrodes in them.

Laura's stethoscope is sourced from an old GI Joe figure I had. It's a little long (and since the black part is flexible tubing, it can be cut down to size, but I won't). The one that comes with her (on Taylor) is designed for veterinary use.
The black kit box comes with the veterinarian. It cannot open and is rather difficult for the figure to hold.

It reminded me a lot of some of the gear cases (especially the "Drug Box") used in Emergency!, so I put it in with the group.

The other two are duffel bags, the "jump kits" that came with the Barbie dolls.

They do open and can hold a surprising amount of stuff. But, it can be hard to remove.

The first bag basically just contains a plasma bottle from an old GI Joe figure I had. I also have a Playmobil oxygen mask, but it's not of much use with anything but their own figures.
The second bag contains a syringe and gauze roll that came with the veterinarian, as well as a Playmobil IV bag.
The IV can be attached to the arm of the patient and given that Playmobil figures have thick arms for their tiny size, the clip also fits on most larger figures in the 1:9-1:12 range pretty well. Better than taping it on for display.

And finally, some action shots I did.
The figure modeling as the patient is the Diamond Select Toys Westworld "Outlaw" Dolores Abernathy, who I normally display with the Breyer horses.

According to the show, she is an advanced sentient android; and she still had a predominantly mechanical body when she first appeared in this outfit. Thus, I sort of wonder if she'd even have vital signs.
I plan to pick up a couple more Playmobil figures for their accessories. Many of the sets with paramedics/emergency physicians (ala NOTARZT as the Germans call them) have accessories that are oversize for Playmobil figures, but just right for 1:9 figures. I found a $5 figure that contains a pair of trauma shears, tweezers, and a syringe; as well as another that includes a different IV and an Ambu Bag.

I found some firefighter turnout gear designed for 8-inch figures, but at $10 each, it's pricey. I paid $15 for Laura new complete with her gear (much of it was repurposed here), and $5 used for Taylor. Hopefully, with stores adding more stuff for Christmas, I can find a cheap off-brand action figure that has a uniform that fits.

Backroading yesterday in South Florida cattle ranch country, enjoyed a drive on Martin Grade Scenic Highway. It was 12 miles of treelined 2 lane road, with the trees arching over the roadway.

Ike, thanks for sharing that beautiful picture! The Martin Grade is quite a road with quite a history.

You mentioned being in cattle country and you truly are there. In December, Florida will be celebrating the 500th anniversary of the 1st cattle and horses to come to America. The event is known as the 2022 Great Florida Cattle Drive. The 1st celebration of this was in 1995 when Florida celebrated its' 150th Anniversary of statehood. On that event, a cow crew plus 600 outriders and 25 wagons, drove 1000 head of Cracker cattle 70 miles as a reenactment of the old days. My late Father-in Law participated in that 1st event.
The Martin grade was also used for real cattle drives back in the day.

My brother took this photo this morning, 07 Nov 2022 from his back deck, Omaha. He titled it "Fire In The Sky". One of the most gorgeous sunrises I've ever seen.

I want to share a couple of pictures of a bumper crop of acorns. This large Water Oak stands in our yard and we've lived on this part of our farm for over forty years and have never seen such a bountiful crop of acorns! I didn't think to look but there are usually deer droppings under this tree for some strange reason. You can literally stand on the acorns and slide your feet along, almost like bearings under your boots.
The acorns extend out about 30 feet from the trunk in all directions. Treefarmer

Just something about a tree tunnel that helps make life good.

One of the best falls in a long time.

A five year old boy has survived after being bitten by a three-metre long python [snake] and dragged into a pool.

Beau was by the swimming pool at his family’s Byron Bay home when the snake attacked him yesterday afternoon.

His father Ben says Beau’s 76 year old grandfather was the hero.. diving into the pool to rescue him.
