....sad day!!......been carrying the same #72 whittler for about 10 years. there wasn't anything special about it other than the delrin on this particular one looked more like real bone than any of the other 33 I've got. spent all day yesterday looking for it with no luck. guess i'll have to open up the display and pick me another favorite......this is what scares me about trying to edc one of my really old ones...........................

.......someone, I have no idea who, has just sent me a #72 BSA whittler to replace the one I lost. I tried to search the name on the package to contact whoever did this, but no luck, so I owe someone out there bigtime!!...whoever you are, thanks a million!!!......anyone who doesn't think this is a great bunch of guys better think again!!!.....

I picked up another 1st generation Camillus 72 (1946) short line with Rogers Bone handles last night. Sellers pictures (provided) are not all that great but the knife looks to be in very good condition and the seller says the blades have good snap. "This knife has a nice snap to it when closing it." It's up in Minnesota so if it gets shipped today, I should get it the first part of next week.

These things are like potato chips. I can't lay off 'em.

This one would have made number four but I let one get away. The bone on these and the jigging on same, is mesmerizing. I love it. I didn't need this one but dammit I wanted it. I am sore tempted to buy every bone handled 72 I can get my hands on.

I put the first bid on that knife.I'm glad you got it.I already have two of the first generation knives (it's them bone handles you cannot resist )

Those are some lookers alright.

If the one I just bought is in the condition that appears in the sellers pictures, I'm tempted to send it to Wallace Rockwell for a fluff & buff. He does a wonderful job.

I was shocked to discover I didn't have one with these handles in the long line stamp. I do now. I also picked up a Remington R-14 with wood handles (made by Camillus of course) but I won't get that one for a couple more months. Seller's pictures of the Rem are too bad to post.

.....jerry, have you ever tried to figure out how many different variations there are in the color of the "bone style" delrin they used -I have 5 bone and about 25 of the delrin"bone"look, and I can see about 5 different looks to the delrin............

Probably in order of introduction.

I don't think you can leave out that black "shrinky dink" they used in the '30s & '40s. That was something all by it's self. (for some reason, I have no picture and I know I had one of those)

Rough Black

Rough Brown (early Delrin??)

This is only one of several different shades of brown Delrin.

A light brown tan color.

Brown & yellow "worm groove" looking.

Plain old yellow for the Yello-Jakets

A kind of reddish brown

White for a short time on the Scouts.

Brown wood on the #5s

I know y'all are probably getting sick to death of these but dad gummit, I like 'em. Just got this long line yesterday. The handles are pinned so she's pre-'76. She's in fine condition and I'm quite happy with her. Another fine example to add to the pile.
