Wait - you went to Philadelphia on purpose? ::poke::

JK, I don’t like big cities. ::facepalm:: (unless it’s New Orleans, San Antonio, or Boston).

Steve, that is awesome! I had no idea the Olympia was still afloat.

Ken,

There are a couple of reasons to go but only during daylight and on weekends. The Olympia is one reason. Your caution is noted as Philly seems to be on a tear to see how many funerals can be arranged through sudden impacts of small projectiles. Some lives matter, but not much it seems.

Colonel,

According to one of the docents on board, she rests in the mud for some periods of tide. She needs help as it hasn't seen a drydock in many decades. The volunteers do what they can to keep it decent to see. I contribute what I can to it, its a worthwhile cause. In my opinion, it has more historical value than the USS New Jersey, BB 62 or any of the Iowa's except USS Missouri.

The USS New Jersey, BB 62, is across the river from Olympia. Also worthwhile seeing an Iowa class battleship. It get some state support. Ken, if you think Philly is bad, well, Camden does try.

A freighter coming into the Michigan SOO Locks heading into Lake Superior. The other side is Canada. And a waterfall we happened across, west of Rogers City, Mich.

Australia used to " Ride On The Sheeps Back ", that was the saying in the 1950' and early sixties, it was our biggest export commodity and a huge money earner for our country. Many old established families became very wealthy with huge properties. In the state where i live in it was huge in the Western District, this is where my family comes from, and i can remember the wealthy pastoralist families when i was a kid. Times change and man made fabrics started to replace wool, and most of these families had to sell and get out of the industry, but some held on. This property has just gone on the market, it is one of a handful that has not been broken up over the years, but is for sale in 3 lots, so could possibly be broken up after all this time. It is beautiful country with rich volcanic loam soil and good consistent rainfall on average, the landscape it dotted with extinct volcanoes, this is prime farming country. Thought those of you who are farmers may find these pictures interesting.

The property is called Buln Gherin and is 4,700 Acres.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you don't get much snow there.

Nice country and nice pictures.

Can snow in some of the areas when we get deep cold snaps coming up the the Antarctic, but yes you are correct, not much in this part of the state. :)

Thank you, cudgee.

The roof on that beautifully designed and nicely built sheep pen doesn't look like it will hold much weight.
A very impressive structure.

Looks like a really choice property. I've wondered if dingos are a threat to the sheep. If so are dogs used to keep dingos away?

Dingoes are a threat to farm animals especially new born, but more up in the high country where it is less inhabited, they shy away from humans. Foxes take a lot of new born lambs in the area i posted, dogs are not used to keep dingoes away. Over here we have a high feral dog population where domesticated dogs have escaped into the bush and gone feral, a big problem, wild dogs and dingoes are usually nocturnal which is their defence mechanism. In country Australia, dogs are not allowed to roam, if your dog came onto my farm and i did not recognize it as your dog i am well with-in my rights to shoot it. But it is a choice property. :)

Wow! Cudgee that is amazing. I’d live to see them work the sheep out there. I’m with Ken, you really ought to buy that place!

There used to be a pack or two of feral dogs where I grew up. They typically went back to their “homes” to get fed but would pack up all hours of the day and night and cause issues. But they’ve all been “taken care of” now.

It’s the same here out in the country. Dogs straying onto someone else’s farm are at the mercy of the land owner. Most of the time they’re allowed to pass on through unless they’re causing mischief. If they are......

It’s been raining here lately - a lot. We got another 2 inches yesterday. The ground is saturated. Yesterday during a lull in the deluge I went for a walk-about to check on things. Here’s a couple of pictures.

First the front creek. You’re looking at the upstream end of an 8 foot diameter tube (old railroad tank car with the ends cut off) the creek runs through. I estimate it was 75-80% full. The creek has overflowed it only twice that I know of in almost 40 years.

And this earthworm that was in the gravel road. The ground is so saturated these guys are coming up for air. Believe it or not this one is at least two feet long - biggest night crawler I’ve ever seen! ::woot::
