Glad y'all were able to salvage the doe. Things such as that unfortunately happen all the time and usually go undetected. Glad you did what had to be done.

Getting in my first turns of 2020, almost didn't happen as the calendar is counting down. At Wisp in Western Maryland. Decent snow with some of the real stuff mixed in. Upper 30s but a cold wind from the North. The slopes are about half open, so it was a little crowded in the lift lines today. They only let people ride the chairlifts together that are in the same group. I felt bad riding Triples/Quads by myself but what else could I do?

Thanks gentlemen! The neighbor boys helped us with all the deer we took this year, including this one. So when this one comes out of the ice water soak I’m going to send them a back strap over. They’re pretty excited.

I can teach you, Colonel. It's a lot of fun, good exercise and relaxing. Yesterday was pretty chilly, 21° at the base and breezy. I was second in line.

Sad story with a good ending. This little yearling doe got caught in the electric fence this evening, tangled up pretty good. The boys just happened to be playing in the back field and heard her. They went snd turned the fence off and the Great Pyrenees dogs, Carl and Bella, went back there and kept her from trying to get up (which kept her from getting hurt worse than she was).

So we did what was needed and now there’s some young tender venison in the cooler soaking. I used my brand new Christmas knife, CASE TB Tribal Lock CV to unzip Bambi’s britches. It worked fantastic.

Our woods are wet! The recent rains have not been extreme but in the winter time the obvious things such as not much evaporation and the trees being dormant lead to standing water. This water would normally be gone in just a few days in the summer. The following pictures, Sunday afternoon, show the back yard, the normally passable road to one of the ponds and then the actual small food plot with standing water in places.

Haven't seen a buck since December 22, just does and little ones.
This evening, after replacing the wheel bearings on the right front and repacking at least the outside bearing on the left front, I decided to use the cart to ride to the shooting house. Coming back after dark I got a neat picture of the road around the pond and then near the back yard (wonder why the wheel bearings fail?)

TF I feel your pain. We have mud on top of mud here. Cold rain seems to be the norm for us in the winter time anymore. Sunday I wore my tie with all the snowflakes on it and told folks I was praying for either a big freeze or warm wearer because I’m abut done with mud. One of the guys said that the ideal winter would be 60° and the ground frozen. lol

Here you go boys, right out of a west Florida mud hole yesterday afternoon

Notice Flossie's nose on the left side of the picture, she found another one. The deer is laying in about 2" of water.

I had been watching 2 does and a fawn for about 30 minutes out about 130 yards from the stand, they left and about 15 minutes later this little fork horn came out almost under my stand. I just glanced at the deer and tried not to move because it was so close, thinking it was a doe. The deer then began walking away and I raised my binoculars to watch and I was surprised to see it had antlers. When he got out about 100 yards I lost track of him in the weeds. I used a grunt call and finally saw him move in response to the call. The .243 did it again.
