Re: Matchng Pairs
Hi, All;
This thread is one of the most entertaining, educational, satisfying thread that I'v ever have the pleasure of taking part in. Anyone can find their wants, needs, and interests addressed in it, and share them with an truly appreciative group.
Well, Folks I'v just spent the last of several tries, each a couple of hours in length, trying to take and download pictures to use in this forum, and thread, and failed each time. There is absolutely no way, that I can learn to use the new system, of this new computer, that replaced my old computer. I relay hate to give up, but I have no choice. A couple of Old sayings sum it up nicely, "You Can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks" , and "All Good Things Must Come To An End".
I would like to thank all of the members of AAPK, that have allowed me to share our experiences, ideas, 'tricks', dislikes etc. It's been a source of great enjoyment for me, but, I can no longer participate.
Goodbye.

Re: Matchng Pairs
I really like that slimline trapper. That pattern sure looks good with the sabre ground blade.

The big one is a Colonial Rhode Island and the little guy has no markings at all.

Re: Matchng Pairs
It was not intended... but ended up with two Schrade Cut Co. fruit / melon / meat / tester knives (how many names can a knife have?).
The handles at first fooled me as I thought I was looking at jigged bone in the photos... but turned out to be some sort of black plastic composition (that's pre−1945) with "reverse" (raised) jigging. The one to the right still has a faint etch on the blade reading "SWIFTS TABLE READY MEATS"...

Re: Matchng Pairs
Just noticed this Pal Cut Co 2 blade I've had for years is close to the same in many areas with this Ed. K Tryon I just picked up. Down to the size, dimensions, bone color, the protruding bone that is not flush with bolsters, but has a distinct shoulder of an 1/8 inch, etc. Like they were made in the same factory. Wonder if they were? Also wonder what the age of either is since the companies used the same stamp for decades at a time but I think both went out of business in the '50s so should be older than that anyway. Nice knives though, nothing wrong with either and they look like bone no one is doing these days.

Re: Matchng Pairs
I swore I wasn't going to pick up anymore repeats of knives I already own...But, then I had to go sniffin' and snoopin' around looking for more of my favorite Queen pattern: 042151...and...well...resistance was, as they say, futile.

Hey QT, you think your bad. I'm on to my 3rd 76' queen #19 trapper. I keep getting lucky with them. Next 2 that are coming in i got for $65 each. And they are both mint. First one is mint but i payed $85. Still pretty cheap for the harder to find tang stamp. I guess when i get me more money i'll be on the lookout again

Re: Matchng Pairs
I picked up a couple Toothpicks. Keep one and dump the other. Never owned one. Both impeccable knives, great stag, Giraffe bone, great colors, snap, action, centering, like you would expect, tight, no slop, mild snap. But what jumped out at me was the big bump on the spine of the Northwoods blade and how far that long pull clip makes the blade stick out when closed. That's big to me. And the blade is so much thicker near the tip, and wider, and less sleek and smooth. The Northfield is flat ground, the whole blade is thinner, narrower, sleeker, and much lighter. Barely sticks out at all when closed, so much more narrow in the pocket, less obtrusive. I like the stag better than the Giraffe and I LOVE the no shield look. I like the Northwoods steel liners and pins better than Northfield brass though. Just me.

Re: Matchng Pairs
Ivoryman, thank you for taking the time to describe the 2 knives. Obviously the blades are shaped differently, but the size difference and pocketability consideration is very apparent in you side-by-side photo.Ivoryman wrote:
