T DOG, I do believe that Parker Bowie would be ideal for a reenactor because of its particularly rustic or vintage kind of appearance.

There used to be, (I am not sure if it still occurs) a reenactment of a civil war "Battle" at a place near my home called Picacho Peak. there was a reenactment group that meet there on the anniversaries of the battle. I met the gentleman that ran it and had an invitation to go but I could not make it. I talked with him about clothing and gear and he said just what you said here about what kind of knife to carry

During my Arizona phase I often drove by Picacho Peak.

They were part of a huge collection of military items a friend bought about 40 years ago. The 1st one is unmarked & massive! Feels more like a short sword!
The 2nd is stamped with the initials L.J.M. on the tang. The handle is held on by a large Allen head screw.

T DOG, I liked Arizona and many of the people but I can't say I miss it. I lived in southern AZ, just down the road from Tombstone. We had some pretty impressive temperatures.

That’s very very cool. I have a confederate Zouave sword bayonet that I need to post some time.

I had a great great grandfather who served in a KY Union regiment and his brother was in a KY Union Calvary regiment, they were from a Union county here in Kentucky. I have the wallet my great great grandfather carried in the war.

What makes the story even odder, their last name was Jackson, is that Thomas Jonathan (Stonewall) Jackson was their distant cousin. Crazy times.

Yes sir, distantly on my paternal grandmother’s side. I had no idea until I had to do a genealogy project in high school.

He was a genius. From all I’ve read he was outnumbered and out gunned in almost every battle. But he used retreat, forced marches, and night maneuvers to either get the enemy spread thin or to get them in one place while he maneuvered around them and attacked where they used to be.

I’ll try to remember to take some pics of the bayonet and write up the story as to how it came into my possession. It’s quite the story.

I have several books on him. I just picked up; Stonewall Jackson: The Man, The Solider, The Legend by Robertson at a local used bookstore. it is in my pile of "Next Books to Read"
