Camillus 72 Clones

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Today I add this STANLEY SL6, 440 S.S., 3 blade, swelled center, whittler pocket knife, to the Camillus 72 variations topic.
It didn't need any cleaning. Click on the picture(s) to ENLARGE.

Today I added this knife to the family, another Camillus 72 variation by Remington, but NOT one of the three variations that I knew about. This is a Remington "R14" with the circle Remington shield and the circle REMINGTON, MADE IN USA tang stamp. However, there is NO pattern # (R14) stamped anywhere (it wasn't ground off, sanded off or removed in any other manner). So, to me at least, this is a fourth variation in regards to Remington. Yes, it has the correct 3 blade, swelled center configuration and it is 3 5/8" long, closed. My other two Remingtons are on page 3. The first "picture" here, is of the description of the three variations that I knew of. The last four pictures are of the knife. It didn't require any cleaning at all. Click on a picture to ENLARGE.

I bought this knife earlier this evening. Another Ulster 63, yet another variation of the Camillus 72 and a variation of the Ulster 63 itself. This is my fourth Ulster 63, but my first with the pattern # stamped on the other side of the main tang stamp. When I receive it, I'll clean it if needed. I will post MY pictures in the appropriate location(s). These pictures are the seller's.

Jerry, this is soooooooooooo addictive. I can't get enough of it. In all my years of collecting various items, I have never been so gung-ho about obtaining any particular item or items. I'm having a blast AND gaining knowledge, which is a good thing.

I just purchased this Whitetail Cutlery, 3 blade, swelled center pocket knife. Yes, it is another Camillus 72 variation. The ad did not specify the closed length. I'll measure it when I get it. I'm 99.99% sure it will be 3 5/8" closed. Also when I receive it, if it needs any cleaning, I'll take care of it. MY pictures of it will be posted in the proper place(s). These pictures are the seller's.

I have one that came with a little sheet of paper that says Whitetail Cutlery. It has zero markings on the knife. Seems to be fairly well built. ::shrug:: If I remember correctly, it was a gift from T.J. Murphy. I never marked it because I expected him to live at least as long as me. ::teary_eyes::

GOOD L@@king knife Jerry! Very cool that it came with the paperwork. I don't know what the etching on the blade of my Whitetail Cutlery knife says. I'm just going by the seller's description of the knife. I don't know if it has any tang stamp or tang etch either. When I get it, I guess I'll find out. ::shrug:: :D

The seller's description:
“Never used. Has some tarnish/corrosion from being in drawer in garage or several years.” (and)

"This WHITETAIL CUTLERY pocket knife has 3 blades, the longest one is 2" (the cutting portion of blade). I believe the handle is bone...maybe antler. This knife is an older model, has been gently used and all blades are sharp. A great collectible!"

Well, the knife arrived and I'm slightly embarrassed. It isn't close to being a Camillus 72 variation. It measures exactly 3" closed. The blade etch has a "deer head" image and says White Tail Cutlery HAND MADE. Unknown maker as there are NO tang stamps or etches on any blade (China? Pakistan? Japan? .....?). The handles DO appear to be bone. It's not a "bad" little knife, so I'll hang on to it for now. ::shrug::

Skip, I think we've all got one that was primer and no powder. Just not quite what we were wanting. But it made you smarter. Sometimes those are good reminders. ::nod:: ::nod::

My P.O. Box produced this knife today. It more than makes up for the disappointment I received yesterday. It's a beauty and it's an ULSTER 63, my fourth of this pattern number. It is another Camillus 72 variation and my third ULSTER variation of the "63" pattern. The first two pictures are of the new arrival. Per the seller, the handles are evidently made of a material called "bonite." The last four pictures show the different tang stamp variations. Picture #3, tang stamp has maker info and pattern number. Picture #4, tang stamp has maker info and NO pattern number anywhere. Pictures #5 & #6 (the new arrival), on one side, the tang stamp has the maker info and on the other side is the pattern number. :D

I should be getting this one sometime next week. It's a Craftsman, 3 blade, swelled center, pocket knife. I think it is and I hope it is, a 9494 pattern. The tang stamp and the shield are difficult to read. I'll give it the once over when I receive it. I'll post MY pictures in the appropriate location(s). These pictures are the seller's.

This Imperial Scout knife "should" arrive next week. It is my first Imperial Scout knife with this style shield. Except for some blade spotting, it appears to be in very good condition. I'll give it the once over when I receive it and post MY pictures in the appropriate location(s). These are the seller's pictures.

Floyd, this is the list of variations that Jerry so kindly provided. Of course there are still the variations of the variations and the variations that aren't on the list. ::uc::

Today I add yet another pocket knife to the Camillus 72 variation family. This one is a Craftsman, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" pocket knife. It is a 9494 pattern Craftsman, although it isn't stamped or marked as such, anywhere on the knife. The before pictures are about 6 posts above this one. It received a VERY gentle cleaning and looks good. I still have to find one with the 9494 pattern # stamped on the tang. Click on a picture to ENLARGE.
