Aimus, those two knives have imitation ivory or "Ivoroid" handles.

I don't think the nail ease recess made that much difference. I wouldn't be surprised to see examples of each knife, both with and without the ease, depending on time of manufacture.

Actually, the knives not the same size. The larger is 3 5/8" and the smaller is 3 1/4".

The way I cropped my scans to all be a 3"x3" image on my website makes large knives look smaller than they actually are and small knives larger than they actually are. So, these two knives look to be the same size, but they are not.

The 424 is the larger knife.

Took a chance on this knife on ebay, its not stamped
Was hoping someone would reconize the jigging it seems to be very distinct
it is 3-1/2" a very well built knife
Any thoughts on the maker?

The handles, though very pocket-worn, are very reminiscent of Robeson bone.

However, I've never seen an unstamped Robeson pocketknife, except for certain ones made for the United States Army during WWII and simply stamped, "U.S.A." on the master tang.

Also, the pen blade looks a bit bulky for a Robeson.

I notice the blade pin is visible in the bolster.

Do you think the knife could have been re-bladed?

Yes Charlie i supose the blades may have been replaced but it would have been long ago and by someone that knew what they were doing...maybe a factory replacement ?
The blades and backsprings are lined up and the pin is only visable on the front side and the bolsters dont show any sign of being tampered with.The snap is strong on both blades opening closing and at the half stop it is a nice knife..

Unscrupulous workers sometimes take home parts, or completed knives. An old dealer told me of a guy that came to his table several years ago, and asked if he was interested in any Queen knives or parts. He said sure, bring them in, and the guy said he would have to come outside and look at them. He went out and the guy had a small pick up, with the bed half full of Queen knives, and parts. He claimed to be a security guard at Queen, and they gave him all the stuff... Smelling a bunch of stolen goods, he backed away from any dealings with the guy.
I am sure plenty went home in pockets and lunch boxes at every knife plant.

Im sure this is not the only knife co. with this problem...

And it almost makes me want to re-think ever buying from anyone other than an official certified dealer!

My post was a joke. I was just trying to suggest a little more mystique for your knife.
However, what is generally referred to as a "Lunch-Box Special" is a knife thought to have been assembled by a cutler of scavenged parts. The knives are usually not consistent with a standard pattern. The worker would have sneaked the knife out of the plant in his lunch-box, hence the name......

No one really knows how prevalent the problem might have been.

No one really knows if knives like yours are lunch-box specials or something assembled more recently from legally acquired parts.

Whichever, it doesn't matter now. No company would have a claim on the knives. They're artifacts of a day gone by.

Enjoy your knife. I would if it were mine.

Some real nice ones posted so far. You really don't see this pattern alot anymore.

I think this is the only one I have. A nice Camillus...The funny thing, when I was looking at it this morning, I noticed it still has the crossed sword etch (You can't see it from my poor pics). I don't think I had noticed that before.
