My Dad had a drill EXACTLY like that! I seem to remember him using it with a long auger bit to drill holes in re-claimed railroad ties that we sometimes used for fence corner posts and other things. I just remember that when I was little, it was too heavy for me to lift!

Here's a crazy video - I guess the pilot has to hope he doesn't have to scratch his nose...

Several years ago my brother had an auction to get rid of some "stuff" and I came home with these. I enjoy wooden boxes of all sorts but couple one with tools and it had to come home. The brace is included only because it is marked Keen Kutter.

Nice! I have a couple of those and the bits in my shop - still use occasionally. ::tu:: I don’t recall the names on the braces, though. I’ll have to look. ::facepalm::

Which version of Mexican cornbread is that, Charlie?

I have a half dozen different recipes, with a variety of ingredient combinations.

Preheat oiled large cast iron skillet, because you don't have my grandmother's cornbread pan  , at 425 degrees.

Two cups of self rising corn meal, 1/4 cup flour. 1/2 tsp salt, two cups buttermilk, two eggs, eight Tbsp oil, 1/2 cup chopped jalapenos, one small can Green Giant Mexi-Corn, 3/4 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese or cheese of your choice. Pepper Jack would be great, but I cannot give that to Sarah :( .

Mix dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, oil and eggs and whip to a smooth, no lumps batter.

Add remainder, mix well.

Add to skillet.

Bake for about 20 minutes, if the edges against the pan are brown, broil at high temp until brown, but not as brown as mine. I have to reverse that pan for my broiler element to brown the whole length and I overdid it.

This makes a lot. Alter to suit your available pan. I suggest a cookie sheet underneath, in case it rises out of your skillet.

You can butter it, I do. Sarah doesn't.

I eat it with sweet milk. Sarah uses buttermilk, which I cannot even pour for her. Yeah, I know, I poured out two cups for the recipe, but that was to cook, not drink. ::barf::

Thanks, Charlie. Now I have another variation.

I use one of 2 large (11" and 13") cast iron skillets for my cornbreads, depending on whether I'm making a medium or large cornbread. Small cornbread?? Never happens.

I'm fortunate that I still have those 2 from my grandmother. They were in a different cupboard when I had all my cast iron cookware stolen (along with a lot of other stuff). 16", 14", 13", 11", 9", 7" skillets, a round and a square griddle, 3 dutch ovens and more.

You do NOT want me on your jury if up on theft charges. :x

Please don't think less of me for what I'm about to say.
Due to lack of corn meal on hand and also being in a hurry I used a mix.
Fleishmann's Simply Homemade Cornbread mix.
Added 2 chopped jalapenos and a cup of shredded cheese.
It was delicious. And quick to make.

Didn't quite know where to put this one.
Has anyone had any experience with these? They are called Transparent 3D Floating Frames.
Close an item in between the 2 membrane sheets and it seals and holds the item. Good for
coins, jewelry, bug collection etc. As you can see they even hold knives. They stand on a
flat surface or hang on the wall. Just not sure what time, temps and light will do to the
membrane material.

Another version of "Mexican" cornbread, which is actually a Tex-Mex version, is to mix up your cornbread in any manner you wish but then you stir in a pound of taco meat - browned ground meat seasoned up for tacos, and cooked it as you normally do. Gives it a meaty (duh) and spicy flavor.

I did hear that that big storm in the center of Iowa released about 5000 or so birds off the game farms into to the wild for us humble public hunters.
