All About Pocket Knives

I have a guess: How about a counterweight for a beam scale? Sort of like this:

My 2nd guess is a counterweight on an an old gate or door-closer, like this:
Not all counterweights were hidden. Some were part of the item - like a counterweight on an adjustable hanging lamp.

Well luggage, I don't know if your right, but I sure like the idea!

Might be a counter weight for a cotton scale.

Could it be used to make sheaths for knives of that size and shape, (my not knowing any dimensions of it, but a guess)

Todays flea market find.
A camel saddle.
I'll get it recovered and it will make a nice footstool.

Yes, they are brass.

Mine was a tractor, been so long ago I don't remember what kind of tractor.

Some great old pedal toys!

No pedal car or tractor for me - at least not that I can recall. I did have a hand-me-down tricycle though. I only remember it from old pictures.

Yup, I had a pedal tractor that was (of course) a hand-me-down from my brother. I LOVED that thing. It was a three-wheeler that looked a lot like my Dad's International row crop tractor. I had a hitch on the back of it that allowed me to pull my red wagon behind it. At some point, I decided to turn it into a dune buggy/sand rail. So, I took the metal body completely off of it so that the steering rod just flopped around loosely. It was basically just a T-frame with a single wheel in front, the pedal gear and the rear axle and seat. I raced around inside our concrete-floor barn wearing goggles and a plastic army helmet. I also remember learning that I could get up to speed, then grab one rear wheel with my hand while turning to make the whole buggy slide and spin around that wheel. That was huge fun!

This is another example of why I say I was born to be an engineer. I took apart & modified ALL of my toys. That's why I don't have ANY of these cool pristine vintage toys from my youth!

I had a peddle car, a peddle tractor AND a peddle Army Jeep. Being his only grandson and not having any sons, my grandfather spoiled the hell out of me.

Cool pictures everyone! I have trophies from pedal power tractor pulls when I was a kid..all the local fairs and firehalls used to have them..

Anyone else have a bald forearm! I was sharpening a few last night playing with my new Lansky turnbox and my better half looked at my arm and started laughing!! She carries a switch blade in her back pocket at work by the way... it's an off brand one but it's pretty sturdy and holds a decent edge..she works in retail and uses it to open boxes and packages at the store she manages..

another road trip garage sale find. 1/2 inch Black and Decker D handle drill. 375 RPM, last time I used one was around 1975 to mount a bumper hitch. But priced for $1.00 I couldn't resist, works good.

They sure don't make em' like that anymore... it'll probably last another 50 years...
