I just picked up this Bersa Thunder 380. No special reason, other than it looked cool, kind of like a PPK, and it was cheap.
I haven't fired it yet, but it seems to be a well made pistol. I don't really care for the magazine trigger disconnect feature. it's also little larger than I expected, bigger than a PPK. I think there are probably 9x19 pistols this size nowadays.

I realize that a stiletto would match the "Italian" aspect of the revolver better, but I went with a mid-range BM Bali instead. Because I consider this pistol and knife to both be extremely fun, neo-retro styled pieces, but fairly impractical for EDC.

I'm in (lower) Michigan nowadays. Though I spent my first few decades living in NC, primarily Charlotte and then Boone for a while (in the Appalachian Mountains).

I honestly love the Chiappa Rhino as a range toy. It's offers a very fun and unique shooting experience. I've always been extremely interested in Emilio Ghisoni designed revolvers, and I still desperately want a Mateba 6 Unica at some point. The Rhino was the last revolver he designed but it still shares a lot of the innovations seen in his earlier guns. As for shooting, it does significantly reduce muzzle climb, though I wouldn't say it actually reduces recoil like some reviews suggest. It just redirects it in a more ergonomic and natural way. It feels significantly less jumpy than most traditionally styled revolvers, which does allow faster follow-up shots. Though I may not be the best judge of that since it's my only .357 revolver (most of my others are in .44/.45 or .22). I've fired it side by side with friends' .357s though and the difference is definitely fairly pronounced.

The trigger lockwork is quite nice and smooth with a clean/crisp single action break. I will say that the firing grip requires more attention and thought than most other revolvers, because the cylinder gap is so close to the grip. The unique action also takes sone time to become used to. The hammer cocking mechanism doesn't stay down when firing single action and that feels a bit counter-intuitive at first. However, I DO particularly like the way the gun is designed to operate both with or without moon clips, without any modification or change necessary.

The primary criticism I have is the complexity of the mechanism, it looks like a swiss watch inside, once you remove the side-plate. Because of that, I don't think I'd want to trust my life to it. I've never personally had it malfunction or seize during use, but I do suspect that the increased complexity might cause problems after extended hard use. I worry that EDC might be tempting fate and/or Murphy's-law.

To put it succinctly, it's a very fun and interesting peice to own and shoot. Plus, it shoots quite well and offers good accuracy. I would say most revolver lovers should go out of their way to at least try one if not outright buy one. I would probably avoid the snub-nose version because the sights on that one aren't anywhere near as nice. I personally went with the 3-inch model because it has the target sights of the larger variants without having the under-barrel rail (which I don't personally like the look of, or have any need for).

I recently acquired this Marlin Model 100, 22 single shot rifle. The bore was dirty, but it cleaned up nicely and is in good shape. Now the obvious, it is missing the complete bolt assembly and the trigger guard. I have been checking all the usual online parts sources, but nothing yet. It would make a good project rifle if I can find the parts. Micro groove barrel and walnut stock indicates maybe mid 1950s production.

This is a 54 cal, it's a Green River Rifle Works leman trade gun. It's all patched round ball with my flintlocks, my caplock has a fast twist and I use modern projectiles in it. But I never really use it anymore, just love flintlocks. We have 12 month seasons and no weapon specific seasons here so it's open to whatever takes your interest. I'm having a custom 58 made at the moment, based off an English sporting Manton rifle.

I live in Australia, have hunted NZ a few times too.

Yep, both reds. The first is a 2 year old I shot frontal from about 20 yards. The bigger one I'd about 5 years old, I roared him in during the rut. Shot was about 50 yards broadside, high shoulder dropped him on the spot.

Thank you for the additional information. Heavy hearted about your hunting companion and friend. There are no adequate words.
The large bore Manton should do well. In the past I attended two of the NMLRA (National Muzzleloading Rifle Association) shoots at their ranges in Friendship, IN. I was able to handle and shoot several nice guns there, both rifled and smoothbore, flint and cap. Hunts past, about 20 years ago I harvested two whitetail bucks-but with a modern ML. The first on a rainy day was a running shot at 30 yards. The second buck a year later was also in a hurry. On a cold wintry day he jumped as I approached the end of a cornfield near a stand of woods. The flintlocks do have a special charm and quickly teach the value of a steady hold and shot follow through. For those reasons always thought an accomplished shooter of a flintlock could hold his own with about any firearm. The better originals and better current traditionals are very reliable and unlike many modern firearms balanced and pointable. They have good “hang”. I respect your hunting ability and choice of arm.
