This is one of our local casinos. It got robbed on Tuesday again, as it has been before several times. Why, because its EASY DOUGH. They have also a while back got burned by someone passing a counterfeit $100 bill. Why, because its EASY DOUGH. lol

Here's a couple of things I picked up in the last couple weeks on the trip back to Wyoming.
The Heller hammer I picked up at a secondhand store in Burns Oregon. Burns is kind of out in the middle cattle country and an open range.
Heller is a brand of tools made for farriers. I have two or three Heller farriers rasps and one Heller hoof knife. Obviously this old hammer has been used, and not always on the face or on the ball of the hammer!

Mastercraft I believe was a brand name of the Coast-To-Coast Stores. Think this came out of a pawn shop in Cheyenne Wyoming.
From the amount use on this thing I wouldn't be surprised that it'd been through a couple generations of ranchers and cowboys.
I've used these things my fair share too, but thankfully I never had to use one that was that worn out! But it still works!
Checking online they run from about $30 on up, some North to $60, depending on brand and design. There is nothing like having the right tool for the job and these are the right tool, just old and beat up!

They are old and ugly but they they work!
I got to out of those three so I guess I'm not too bad yet! I got the old and the ugly part okay, just that work part think I'm allergic to...

I think I paid $5 or so. You can get some imports for $15-$20 on amazon but but then you have to add shipping.
I like the fact this one is well-used and made in the US. Diamond fence tools are now imported from China.

Servistar ( True Value Hardware) bought Coast to Coast stores in 1990.

For me getting a nice old tool from a company no longer in business is like getting an old knife. I much prefer the older ones. That's just me, your mileage may vary.

It's a lot of fun watching what he dredges up from the depths... And really makes me want to take up fishing again (too much work/stuff going on right now).

My dad’s old Coleman lantern, still running like a champ. Just put a new mantle on it. Date code stamped on bottom of the nickel-plated fount is August 1948, Model 242C. I bet it has hundreds if not thousands of hours on it. Dad made a box to store and transport it. The original owners manual and all the paperwork is still in it.

Dad was way ahead of his time. He built in a two-way radio inside the box.

Ken - has the top of that lantern ever been repainted? If not, that is amazing! Most of the old camping lanterns I have seen look like they have been mauled by bears or fished out of the bottom of a lake!

Never been repainted. I credit the remarkable condition to the wooden box my dad made for it. The box has 1/2 inch thick felt padding inside it (held in place by glue and duct tape ). As long as I can remember when not in use the lantern was always stored and transported in that box. Dad was a shop teacher. His motto was always “If you’re gonna do something, do it right!”

TFL mentioned paint on the top of the lantern, if my recollection is correct, those tops were porcelain.

Tommy, be sure you use only Coleman Fuel in it. Gasoline will ruin it. You used to be able to buy “white gas” for them but I have no idea if that still exists, and if so where to buy it.

Thanks for all the comments. It is indeed porcelain enamel on the top, and nickel plating on the fount and base under the globe. I have 70 years of fond memories associated with the lantern, including camping, fishing, deer hunting, and Boy Scout campouts. Four generations of my family have used that lantern. Hoping to keep it going for a fifth generation but nowadays propane is more popular.
