Pic's 1 and 2 shows the amount of ice flow on the Kenai right now. :shock:
In the third pic I remember sitting out there and hearing all the birds and animals plus the roar of the river flowing. Now I imagine an eerie silence except the occasional tree branch that breaks under the weight of ice and snow.
Now the fourth pic is my camera crazy brother who doesn't know when to come in out of the rain. In the case a snow storm! Why is he even in town and not back at the lodge? ::dang::

Boy oh Boy! That one is a fine deer! ::tu:: I notice the other deer has apparently shed one of his antlers, is it time in your part of the world for them to shed their head gear? Do you ever find any sheds? I saw an "antler trap" years ago that increased the chance of Bambi knocking of his antlers as he was feeding on corn in a tight "V" made of some sort of woven wire. Our woods are so thick that is a real prize when we find an antler and then usually the squirrels and rats have chewed on them.
Keep the pictures coming, bighomer! Wish our deer would stay around in the daylight, I train 'em to jump in the freezer. :)

Farmer it's not as light as you think, the phone camera lightens up the picture somehow. The younger buck still has both antlers you just can't see it. I have no idea when they start shedding around here but I do find sheds now and again, not that I'm trying. Used to have buddies that kept me in deer meat but most got to old to hunt I guess. I really like it ground up with some pork fat, makes for a fine stew, chili or spaghetti meat. ::tu::

Cool critters, Homer. But I know what you mean about wishing that some would not visit. I have raccoons: I love watching them, but they are also very annoying about eating stuff that I planned to eat myself.

Cheryl and I were on the way to church for evening services yesterday when we noticed a neighbor taking pictures and we turned to look at what she was photographing. I immediately pulled the car over and took these pictures of the sunset with a cell phone camera.

Awesome photos, David! ::tu:: ::tu::

I got this as a birthday card for my dad but I think the picture and history belong in this thread. Proof that if there's a will there's a way, and necessity is the mother of invention. Surprised just 2 draft horses could pull that stack on skids no less.

1967redrider,
That's a great card birthday card and an amazing load! I wonder how they stacked it? The weight is unreal, 144 tons. I just looked at some of the weight slips on last timber we sold and the full loads of pine logs were averaging all around 30 tons. 30 tons being pulled by a big ol' Freightliner. ::shrug:: What a contrast. I read the article and the load wasn't pulled very far but still....unreal! ::hmm::
Here's a 30 ton load.
Here's a 30 ton load.
Changing the subject, I can't get the deer to come close like bighomer does. I need a real camera with a BIG lens and could probably get some interesting photos. Had 7 come into the food plot yesterday afternoon, here are 3 that came close enough to capture with my little Nikon:
click on the pic and you can probably see the critters.

Here's an interesting game camera picture, it appears to be a lightening strike. We had rain that evening. ::shrug:: :
Lightening strike, maybe?

That’s the story of my life. This year during modern firearms season I didn’t see a single deer during legal shooting times. After season I did some bushhogging and now they just about come up in the back yard all the time. ::facepalm::

I guess they were just waiting for me to make them a road to the back door.
