It's Wharncliffe Wednesday!

Almost all of my Wharncliffe knives are either single blade or the Wharncliffe is the main blade. However, I also have some multi-blade knives with Wharncliffe secondaries. The now famous Lansky1 patented "Ratcliffe" is a prime example of this less-common configuration. Here is a Ratcliffe variation (also a Lansky1 mod) from my archive dubbed "TyrannoRatcliffe Rex" because of its aggressive toothy serrations.

Q - since our collab on this one, I've become a Parker knife fan ... more than a few have found their way into my pile. Forgot the fairly unique 'gray-ish' look to the sides

Continuing my theme of Wharncliffe secondary blades.....I think this Kershaw 4880 "DoubleCross" may actually be the original Ratcliffe prototype, or at least a not-too-distant ancestor. It also has a unique double liner lock mechanism that I've not seen on any other knife.

Wednesday again!

Here is a Winchester Whittler to start the day off. It had a Celluloid handle that was gassing pretty bad. Now it is just back from being rehandled by Reverand.

Nice wood on your RoseCraft Sweetwater Creek Senator, Squach The blade may not be a true Wharncliffe, but it's definitely in the Wharny gene pool and, as our dear departed brother jerryd was fond of saying, it's close enough for government work

Although not the first serrated Wharncliffe to be shown here, I believe this Browning model 704 is the first made-in-Japan knife to appear in Wharncliffe Wednesday (I'll have to scan all the posts again to be sure). In terms of materials, it is not a high end knife by any means; however, in typical Japanese fashion it is minimalist in design, well made and the lockback feature makes it extremely practical. The fully serrated blade is like having a small folding rip saw in your pocket.

When I was gainfully employed I appreciated a knife with a serrated blade.

Thanks Q. That Browning is a good lookin' knife! I have a love/hate relationship with serrated blades, I love 'em when I'm cutting tough stuff and I hate 'em when I have to sharpen 'em. Coincidentally one of the knives I'm waiting for is a Browning.

Q... Cool little serrated Wharnie on your Browning. I typically prefer a straight blade, but like doglegg, I always carried a serrated blade at work that really came in handy for cutting work related items.

Q, that is a very serious looking blade. If you ever have to cut up a shark, that knife looks like it would be good for the job.

Thanks Mel! The two Case knives (Norfolk & Lockback Whittler patterns) in my posting are Tony Bose designs. Case did a collaboration with Tony and did a different knife each year with higher end steel (ATS-34, 154CM, or Damascus), stainless bolsters & liners, and custom fit & finish.

Thanks Scott! You are correct... The Case are both Ebony and the GEC 48 is African Blackwood which looks very similar to Ebony.

Indeed I do, Tony And I gotta say, that RRR Hedgehog still looks brand new despite the many hours of use I believe it has seen in your upholstery shop. Curious if you find yourself using one blade more than the other? And how well does it hold an edge? Have you had to sharpen it at all (and if so, how difficult is the D2 steel to sharpen)? Inquiring minds want to know
