Lehua, jus' coolin' da belly
...and seein' as hows Ima "guard dog" I gotta keep watch o'er my Momma whilst she does her daily swim.
OK, everything looks to be under control...so I'll just find a nice shady spot on the beach to lay down and keep an eye on things.
Oh, yeah, that's my DOGG...best guard/watch dog EVER! Keeps the Jehovah Witnesses and the Mormon Missionaries away, but is smart enought to allow the UPS and FedEx guys to leave pkgs. by the door. She's a mix of 50% AKC Alsation (German Shepherd), 25% Akita and 25% Chow Chow...A genuine RED SHEPHERD, complete with black spots on her tongue. Best dog I've ever owned...loyal and protective to a fault...yet also playful and super intelligent...I swear this dog can read my mind and know exactly what I'm thinking just by staring deeply into my eyes (which she does frequently)...and she can also control my mind and make me do things for her that I wouldn't otherwise do, like give her scooby snacks or soup bones when she's done nothing to deserve them. Between dogs like this and dolphins...we humans truly are a "sub"- species in many ways.

Absolutely beautiful pics Q, & great mix of dawg!
I was watching a show this evening with my wife. Travel channel show about beautiful homes in Hawaii. One in Kauai was so impressive I tried to spy it via google earth, with no luck. I was amazed at how unihabited the inner island looked, like a vast unmolested rainforest. Beautiful.

I'm not quite sure about her bloodline. She was dropped by someone on a road near where I live. My wife brought her home one day about four years ago. Her hair was matted and her eyes were totally obscured. Back then she was so timid and humble. Now she growls at me if I ignore her when she is begging for a milk bone.

This is Holly who was rescued from the streets of New Orleans after Hurricane by a group called A Forever Home. She was about 5-weeks old when we got her and is the smartest dog that we've ever had. When she was younger and faster she could catch squirrel's!

This is Lehua, the great Red Shepherd: 50% AKC Alsatian (maternal line), 25% Akita/25% Chow Chow (from her daddy). I've had her since she was born in 2004. She's extremely loyal (to one pack leader, i.e., me!) and fiercely territorial as well as a ferocious protector with a natural instinct to stomp/claw centipedes to death with her 2" bear claws and crush mongoose skulls like walnuts in her alligator jaws with her great white, tyrannosaurus fangs...when she can catch them, which is not too frequently anymore since she'll be turning twelve in April (that's in human years). I love this furry beast more than any other living thing in the world.

Re: SHOW US YOUR PETS!!!
Nice dogs Gents!
A few stories to tell on my 2 dogs...
Nikki, the Chocolate Lab is 9 years old. She had some fatty tumors I had checked out and Doc (best Vet I ever had or met. Does it for love of animal not to have me make his Mercedes payment) said, if they get bigger we will take them out. She had about 7 total tumors spread around on her torso.
A couple of years pass and I have him check them out again. time to address this as she has one in the web of her lower hip that seems to be of good size. 2 days prior to Turkey day last year we drop her off. He doesn't say how many he will address or even how much. In the hundred times I dealt with him always reasonable and never screwed me as I said.
On travel, my wife send a picture that night of my best friend with 2 bandages under armpits and above hips, drain tubes hanging out and leaking all over the place. Looks like she is half dead!
The Vet tells the lady that he made 3 or 4 incisions, some 3 or 4 inches long and pulled out six tumors. One tumor made him lose his mind (in the hip web) that weighed over 1 pound. Yea he put it on a scale.
She did not move for 24 hours after that surgery. Not even to drink, pee or defecate. Nothing! Thought she was good as dead.
When I finally showed home up the next night, she was tail wagging and a now lighter 95 pound lap dog.
Over New Years Eve, temp dropped to -10 degrees and wind chill on top of that. Lady was out of town with friends so I blew up the inflatable bed and watch coyote hunt videos and hung out with the dogs. They really did not leave me a lot of room for rest. Had a great memorable time though.

Re: SHOW US YOUR PETS!!!
Q - that is a beautiful dog.
Jerry - glad your Lab made it through the ordeal.
We lost our beautiful Schatzi to some long term health issues last November, right before Thanksgiving. She was our constant companion and went everywhere with us - just the best dog we have ever had. The family was all pretty devastated.
After a few months of mourning, my wife started looking for a new pup. We are partial to German Shepherds, and she found this little guy - she named him Joshka. He's a cream sable GSD. He's little now, but his pappy is 115 lbs, and his mom is 100 lbs, so he's gonna be a chunk o' dog. We pick him up next week.

Unk, Schatzi was an absolutely beautiful dog and that little guy will fit right in, I'm sure.
Snapped this little pic of Bonni snoozing on her pillows at the end of the couch.
She just turned eleven last week.

Re: SHOW US YOUR PETS!!!
Thanks Jerry and Charlie. Bonni looks like a good old girl.
We got Joshka home a couple of weeks ago. We weighed him two Sundays ago - he was 18 lbs. Then we weighed him last Sunday - he was 25 lbs. We weighed him today (Sunday), and he is 30 lbs. He almost doubled in size in two weeks. That's gotta hurt! lol.
The little fart has wrought a path of destruction upon our household. In other words, he's fittin' right in!
His ears are starting to stand up, which gives him a funny look. I have been calling him Zippy the Pinhead.

That is a nice looking puppy Unk!
It has been a while since I have posted pics of our Lhasas.
This is Gus and Josi in the first pic and Sami in the second pic.
They have a bed under the table in my shop where they like to lay while I am working.
Gus will be 12 in October; Josi & Sami will be 10 in August.
They are great company in the shop and they don't complain about the smell when I am sanding bone!

Here is a picture of our Golden Retriever Ginger. She has been enjoying her first year in Upstate N.Y. since moving from TX. She'll be 11 this June.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Re: SHOW US YOUR PETS!!!
Unk, I know what you mean about German Shepherds. I grew up with a shepherd Collie mix and my wife of 47 years and I have had full shepherds ever since. We lost our Jenny a couple years age and little Molly, now 3 is trying to hold down the fort. She has her own pet Harris sparrow which she found in the woods last fall. Molly spends a good part of her day laying about a foot away from her pet watching it. It's not in a cage. It has a bad wing and can only fly about 10-15 feet so it walks around the back corner of my office (on newspapers by my wife's orders). My wife is starting to look at shepherd pups again but I'm dragging my feet a little because it two dogs make traveling a little more difficult.___Dave
