I would suggest you buy Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values, Volumes 2 or 3. Volume 4 is by far the best but costly. This is a book that belongs in every collectors library. Also, Steve Pfeiffer's "Collecting Case Knives". Steve is a regular here on AAPK and goes by the handle knifaholic. There are many other books and I'm sure other members will jump in to the conversation.
