Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
Thank you Garry and Willy. The stag is what hooked me. The RCC on the bolster is what keeps me collecting these. Don’t see many of these come up for sale so it’s going to be a long hunt.
Thank you Lousivilleboy.

Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
I'm kind of a purist when it comes to Barlow knives. I have criteria that a lot don't meet. I think a Barlow should be an inexpensive knife that you can carry, use and not worry about losing. Ideally $20-$30. It should be carbon steel, not mirror polish (or patina over mirror polish). It should say "Barlow" on the bolster, no shield. And the handles should be indestructible and textured for a good grip, like saw cut delrin. I make exceptions to some of these for knives from Solingen or Sheffield. They have their own style. But the most quintessential Barlow I can think of is the sort of knife they sold off cards at the counter of hardware stores. There were poorly made knives like that, but there were some good ones too.
Whenever I see Barlows with fancy pearl inlay handles or stag, they just don't look right to me.

Your Barlow suggests to me that perhaps Case made a series of Barlows depicting different breeds. Would you happen to know if that was the case? That would made a nice set.

Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
I hated Barlow knives until just a few years ago. For some reason they always looked childish to me. Then I pocketed a few of them after getting on AAPK, and accumulating a few knives. I now love the pattern!
This is an old 4-line Camillus Tip Top that I restored today. (Also posted in the 'Knife Repair' forum). It is getting some pocket time now!

Those stag Barlows all together like that look amazing.
The Appaloosa bone one above is one that I particularly like.
The 130th anniversary is a beauty.
You guys just keep adding more and more to my wish list.
