Edit: I just remembered I had a .35 Rem H.P. round in my desk drawer. I compared it to a .243, here is the picture:

An interesting bit of trivia is that a .243 100gr. round has a muzzle velocity of 2900+/- fps and has 1950 ft-lb of energy. The .35 Rem with 200gr bullet has a muzzle velocity of 2100+/- fps and has about the same energy, 1920 ft-lb. It's interesting to compare various rounds and realize we all are striving for the same result, be it a deer in the freezer or bull' eye at what ever distance.

Bro. Phillp, at the ranges I shoot deer here, the ol 35 Remington Corelockts puts a hurt and a half on deer. Less recoil than a 30-30 and they hit hard. Usually if you aim in the boiler room they leave a nice big hole in and a nice big hole out with lots of tissue on the ground. But since the velocity is pretty moderate, you can eat right up to the hole.

And I agree, she’s a keeper for sure. "Far beyond rubies”.

Wade, what you said concerning punching a deer through and through, "big hole in, big hole out", makes a lot of sense. I've got a collection of bullets I have recovered from deer. That means one hole in and nothing coming out, they're just as dead but a whole lot easier to track if they run and are leaking from an exit wound. I used to pride myself in having them drop right in their tracks from a high shoulder shot but not being as steady as I once was, seems like the more traditional lung shot is more comfortable to me now.

As one feller said, dead is dead! And those high shoulder shots do put em down right now. But a 35 caliber hole in and out of the low lung/high heart area…they don’t go far and are easy to track.

The only problem is this year in my little place they’re nocturnal! My corn pile is GONE but in the daylight there’s nothing. Oh well, there’s a few more days left.

I have been looking for some RN FMJ bullets so I can reload some 45 auto.
My son called me yesterday to tell me a local sports store had a box of 500 - .451 flat nose bullets for only..... $139..... really?

28 cents EACH for just bullets..... at that rate, well, I'm gonna wait a little longer.
Maybe a foolish idea but if that makes me a fool.... oh well.

Probably not! Although I have seen some reviews saying you can set it up for 100+ yards, it seems more appropriate for handguns. Haven’t looked to see if the laser cartridges are available for anything smaller than .223.

I don’t have one, and I’ve never plaid around with one. But I’ve looked at them. I think they’d bee a hoot and a half. If Santa Clause brings it to you, do a review. I’d love to know if it’s a cool as it looks.

When you get to talkin' about hog parts, you mustn't forget the wonderful dish of "liver and lights" with lots of black pepper. We haven't raised a hog to butcher in years but I can say that pork heart is good just like venison, chicken and beef. Lots of that stuff used to be used to make homemade souse or hog head cheese and don't forget the pickled pigs feet. Folks used to eat everything but the squeal. The canneries used to list all the ingredients of such delicacies as "potted meat", pig lips, ears, tails and such. Now it just says pork or pork parts. I suspect that Spam and Treet also contain all the good parts too.
To keep us on track, we always killed hogs with a .22 single shot rifle.
