Thanks edge213, and glad to help Clark23.
That's a fine old IXL Amgar model, Miller Bros.
Here is another all metal IXL model with nickel silver handles.
Wostenholm called this the "Officers" model.

Very nice knife, not many collectors appreciate metal handle knives.

Have a similar pistol grip C. Ibbotson (castrating knife?), yours is in great condition.

Here is a fairly uncommon model from Wostenholm. What makes it a bit unique is that it is a large lock-back (main blade only) with a secondary non-locking smaller blade. Most of the old large-sized Sheffield lock-back folders found are single blade types.
The main blade shows the classic IXL stamp, and features a long pull. The handle length is 5-1/4 inches.
Nice steel pinched bolsters, a bail, and lovely reddish stag on this old fellow.
Awesome specimen you have there sir.

This knife has a one piece split back spring. Although it's a little worse for the wear, I had to buy it. 3 1/8" closed. Ivory handles with 3 circle cutouts on the front side. I'm guessing that at one time had some inlay material, maybe pearl or abalone? The cutouts have been filled in with some sort of clay or putty. The master blade is stamped BRAMHALL/ELLISON/CARLISLE/WORKS. The small blades stamped ELLISON CARLISLE WORKS. Can't find any info on this maker. I'm sure it's quite old. Maybe Sheffield? Check out he photo of the back spring.
First I've seen of a true splitback? That's a lovely piece you have there ::tu::

Beautiful Wostenholm Miller Bro's, the shape both open and closed is very organic and the bolsters are meaty.

Here's a pressed horn Wingfield and Rowbotham I use in the garden a lot, the joint is iirc named clean and square construction.

Finished reading through this thread this morning, what a catalogue of interesting and beautiful examples.

Thanks, it fits the hand very well.

Really nice pruner you have there, the handles with the embossed trademark is outstanding!

The embossing of the trademark lent itself well to the handles construction I suppose. It's very hard to find any information on how they went about making pressed horn scales anymore? It seems to have been lost to time?
Another WW&R example that I've found takes a really keen edge...

Perhaps over 170 years since made and is still in service. A testament to its build.
