Movies I've Watched Several Times and Will Watch Again

SO many movies, holy cow. However, there are certain movies that when I come upon them on TV, will usually stop and watch them...

Arrrrgh - I'm huge fan of movies of all types - old, new and many different genres. I can't even begin to list them...

To give you a taste for the wide range of movies I love to watch, I have been known to binge watch Godzilla movies, John Wayne movies, Japanese Samurai & Chinese Kung Fu movies with English subtitles, Steve McQueen movies, cheesy Sci-Fi movies from the 60s & 70s, Kirk Douglas movies, Humphrey Bogart movies, etc, etc,

I would say that the only movies I really do not enjoy are chick-flicks. Guess what my wife's favorite movies are? Yeah, you guessed it...

You should read the book(s) if you haven't already. Some pretty amazing stuff written by Edgar Rice Burroughs (of Tarzan fame) and first published in 1912. The book series features flying air craft, light rays similar to laser beams, space travel and several other phenomena unheard of or seemingly far-fetched at that time, which have since come to pass.

I thought the movie, which is a condensation of several books, was good but the books were far better.

Didn't Burroughs write The Pulucidor (?sp) series of books? SciFi series about a man that invented a subterrainian boring craft and he discovers Pulucidor.

Burroughs was the king of pulp SF serials - in addition to the Barsoom series, he created both Tarzan and the Pellucidar stories. He also created lesser known series set on Venus, the Moon, the Caspak series (The Land That Time Forgot) and several others. I call his books "flashing sword stories" because whenever it looks like the hero is in trouble, you can bet the hero's "flashing sword" will quickly save the day and the girl he loves. I love his books!

And virtually none of the Tarzan movies, regardless of when they were made, followed Burroughs' books very well.

Still, I like The Wiesmueller Tarzan movies and have seen them all multiples of times.

I think I have read all of Edgar Rice Burroughs sci fi books at least once and most of them several times. At one time I owned almost all of the books he wrote except for the Tarzan series, I read a few Tarzan books but it didn't capture my imagination like his sci fi books did.

I agree the books were far better than the movie. When John Carter came out I was excited but my wife had never heard of the John Carter series. She is a huge comic book heros fan and now a die hard John Carter fan!

I have noticed quite a few mentions of Once Upon a Time in The West, I think that is one of the best western movies ever made and the music is SO good. Some westerns I am very fond of and have seen many times:

There is a Bruce Willis movie called last man standing where he is a gunslinger in the depression era, it has a similar plot as fistful of dollars. It has TONS of 1911 pistol action and sends people flying many feet under the weight of their barrage, it's a very fun movie to watch.

The Road to Perdition with Hanks, Newman, Jude law, Stanley Tucci. A 30's gangster movie with a father and son angle. Hanks plays a hit man with a family.

The opening scenes in Once Upon A Time In The West with Jack Elam, the fly and the .45 Colt is a Classic. However, had I been the director, I'd have had Jack shoot the fly while it was trapped within the barrel of the revolver.

Road To Perdition was a great movie.

The Road to Perdition with Hanks. A night scene was filmed at a old motel up the street from me. wondered why the sheriff was blocking the road. I heard that it hit the cutting room floor? Tom Hanks showed up at the local theater and a lady said a country scene was filmed by her house. The scene with the beach house near the end was built "with special permission" and filmed by Grand Haven on Lake Michigan, and then taken down and all was donated to Habitat for Humanity. Bob

The Mountain Men is a good one. And Jeremiah Johnson has one if my all-time favorite movie scenes - "Skin that one pilgrim, and I'll fetch you another one!" For years where I worked whenever the boss gave us a tough job to do that's what we would say.

Guns Of the Old West Magazine this month has a cover story about the movie "The Magnificent Seven" and how it is turning 60 years old. Still one of my favorites and I was recently able to pick up the DVD at the fleamarket for $2. One that I will surely be watching again. The article mentions how the movie is set in the time period right after the Civil War, about 1870s or so and yet one of the characters is using a Colt SAA Bisley revolver, Winchester 1892 rifles, as well as fast draw holster designs that hadn't even been thought of at that time. So much for Hollywood dramatic license. They figured the public wouldn't be smart enough to notice.
