I have done that a few times, back when I camped with various nephew and with fellows that I worked with. I am not sure if it is because I am cruel or just like to make folks life more exciting. Once when I was running trot lines in the middle of the night with a nephew about twelve years old, a water snake came swimming up to our canoe. I am not worried about snakes, but I told him to take a paddle and keep it from getting in the boat as if it was a dangerous situation. About twenty years later he asked me if our lives were really in danger that night. I had to admit that I did not think the snake was venomous. My nephew forgave me since that was the night I showed him the constellation Scorpio in the southern sky. He told me that he had impressed many folks over the decades by be being able to point out Scorpio.

Looks mighty promising, big monk! We hardly ever get anything but spikes on the camera by the feeder. If we pour corn on the ground, away from the feeders, the older bucks will visit the site. Seems like once or twice later in the summer, a batchlor group will show up at night and then disappear till the rut is on in January and February. Good bucks like the ones in your pictures will feed on the food plots all summer.

Pretty much how they act around our place, too. As long as the does are consistently coming in...the rut changes everything!

Can't compete with big monk's bucks, here's a yearling spike, still with his momma. Most fawns won't start dropping till August.

Some great pictures Phillip -- the bigger bucks come around the mineral/salt liks ever so often ( don't see them at the automatic feeder ?? ) -- we get pictures of them during the fall on the "cob corn" we throw out, on the shooting lanes. When they start chasing the does,you never know where they will show up __________ Like you, I have a couple of young bucks and their "mama"_ show up most everyday, for a "corn snack" ,along with a few squirrels and the crows & doves -- I eliminated 10 raccoons so far,with my traps !!!! - I now, only see an occasional one , once or twice a month on camera ___________________ have a great day ,my friends,Monk

What?!?! You didn't want to pose a knife, with him? You're photography has been stellar, as of late. I think the knife /snake picture would take it over the top

Great Rattler photos, Scott! I always like to see snakes, any kind. Considering how I live on the Gulf Coast, with one of the greatest diversity of snakes in North America, it is surprising how few snakes I actually see in the course of a year.

I worked for land surveying companies for decades, and spend at least half my days in the woods and swamps, and seeing a snake was not particularly common, even then.

Great rattler pic Scott. What a beautiful snake. I noticed when I blew up the pic's, it looks like a little lost silver charm behind the snake. If it is I know why you didn't retrieve it. Who knows maybe just a shiny leaf.

I was closer than I should have been but was using my zoom in my phone. It was docile and the rattle wasn't activated, but I wasn't
dropping my guard......

Week 3 started yesterday.....

The boys spent about 2 hours whaling on this huge pine tree that had converted to solid fatwood!!
I bet they slept good last night I know I did!!
