Holsteins, I'd rather milk one than eat one.

I'll take my steak from a Hereford. ::nod::

Amen! I’ll take a good Hereford steak any day. That’s about my favorite beef critter. Holstein would be too much like McDonalds.

The big boys and I built a goat stand to trim hooves and such out of scrap wood we had laying around. I used my one and only GEC whittler, I thought that was appropriate for carpentry. We even tried it out with the head goat! Lol.

Well duh. They're a milk cow just like a Guernsey or a Brown Swiss, plus a bunch of other breeds.

Chick-Fil-A doesn’t care about that.

Dairy cow? Beef cattle.

They just thought the holsteins were prettier.

Not sure what kind of cattle they are but Argentinian beef is some of the best I have ever had. Think they are grass fed.

+1 on that Jerry. I was introduced to it when I was working in Mexico in the late 1980s and 1990s. That and Negra Modelo beer, which you couldn’t get in the U.S. back then. Una mas muy frio cervesa por favor. ::nod::

Once in Monterrey, Mexico I ate at an Argentinian steak house called Las Pampas (like the name of the cattle ranching area in Argentina). I ordered my boss and I a T-bone meal a piece. When it arrived it was two T-bones that were just shy of porterhouse size. They were delicious. Some of the most flavorful and tender beef I’d ever eaten.

On a recent road trip we happened upon these statues in Oklahoma City. I thought they were pretty cool. They are 1 1/2 times life size.

Those are very impressive arrangements. Quite a bit of detail e.g. the horses' manes. I wonder what material was used by the sculptor. I think-just possibly-something other than bronze was used.

Actually, according to what I've read, they are bronze. I was amazed at the detail.

[quote="OLDE CUTLER"]I didn't know where else to post this, I know I would not want to contaminate any of the other threads showing decent knives. I am having a garage sale this weekend and Sundog and I threw all of our POS knives into this box as a joke and priced them at a dollar each. It will be interesting to see how many we get rid of. One thing is for sure, whatever does not sell will be available for the next round of the POS exchange, and it could be YOU who gets them.

UPDATE:
I couldn't believe it, out of the 31 POS knives Sundog and I had in the box before the garage sale this is what is left. Now we have little or nothing left for the next POS exchange. Well we will have a while to restock. 28 sold out of the box, one guy bought 16 of them.

Most likely cast using what’s called the “lost wax” method, which can convey intricate details. My wife’s cousin is a sculptor and artist of some renown who uses the lost wax method. Here’s one of his commissioned works, which stands in front of the Hayes County courthouse in San Marcos, TX. The statue is of Texas Ranger Captain Jack Hayes, for whom Hayes County is named.

Looks great Ken. Makes me wish I had some kind of artistic talent. I find good sculpture generally more accessible than a lot of paintings.

Very cool photos Phil. Thanks for sharing.

Also VERY cool Ken! Family ties. That is an awesome statue. I have a famous coin and statue/ monument sculpturer in my family as well. My great uncle Anthony.
He designed the US Peace Dollar and my great Aunt Teresa is the model you see on the coin.

Already posted about this if anyone is interested, here is the link....

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=40512&hilit=Peace+Dollar

He designed a bunch of other stuff as well including the Independence Flag Pole in Union Square, NY for our Nation's Sesquicentennial.

I love old coins, sculpture and statues.
He also had a lost wax bust like you mentioned.

At one time, in the 90s, I got into coin collecting. I quickly discovered that I was drawn to the Peace dollar. There was, imho, what I would describe as certain softness about it. Even the Eagle had its wings folded. Lady Liberty's expression is far more natural than on other coins. Refined but nothing strident about her. Compare with the Morgan to see what I am talking about. Although I had greater amounts of other coins, the Peace dollar was my favorite by far.

Jerry, congratulations on being connected to such a talent.
