This one arrived today. I've had one of these on my wanted list for a long time and finally got around to snaggin, one. The Ka-bar Dogs Head Utility knife.
SAS, I see these on sale right now for $80 .... I'm thinking about getting one, ::paranoid:: how do you like yours? Does that seem like a fair price? ::hmm::

That's a nice rig Ken ... like the blade and the overall shape of the knife, with a finger choil to boot!

As you would expect from Ka-Bar it is a solidly built knife. It is basically the same as the USMC/ARMY fighting knife with an enlarged pommel and the guard shortened a bit on the top. It's got some weight to it too. I wouldn't hesitate to carry this knife into just about any situation from camping/hunting to combat. Pluss you get the Dog's Head tang stamp. I paid something like $92.00 for mine so $80.00 is indeed a good price. ::tu::

Interesting looking knife Charlie. I remember reading Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein back when I was in junior high, loved that book. The movie wasn’t nearly as good as the book.

I forgot to post the other Master Imai knives recently finished by Fumio Inagaki. I’m a sucker for a fixed blade with a tapered tang. The three handles are Jacaranda wood, ebony and red sandalwood. The blades were made by Master Imai before his death in 2014. He made these for the Singapore military in 2005. Nice lines on these.

The tapered tang adds so much to the look of these knives Mark! Mine came a couple days ago ... love 'em!
If I may add, there were only 194 of these knives hand finished by Fumio Inagaki, using the Seizo Imai blades from 2005 ... 31 in red sandalwood ... 101 in ebony ... and 62 in jacaranda. These knives are officially approved by the Imai estate. Inagaki worked with Imai for 30 years, and now makes his own custom knives. Mark, we each have a set of the 194 made, which I think is awesome! ::super_happy:: ::handshake::

Nice lines indeed, Mark, those are 3 beautiful knives. I don't know how someone could build such works of art keeping in mind it has a purpose, skinning dead animals. I can't imagine covering one of those in blood and while doing so scuffing up the handle. I suppose there are other uses for the knife, but it's design leads toward using it as a skinner. I guess that's where the current movement of "Buy 2, one for using and 1 for display" originated from, you didn't happen to buy 2 now did you? lol! Really nice acquisition.

Thanks Tony. It is pretty cool owning the few that are out there. It won’t be long before you won’t be able to get one of these easily and then you might have to wait years and years to find one for sale. It’s going to be a hard to find line of knives for sure.

Mark I think these would make great hunting knives, but since Master Imai made them for the Singapore military, I have to wonder what they were using them for? I doubt that their army is hunting killing and butchering animals, militaries travel with their own food prep and don’t live off the land like the knights did during the crusades. So it must have some different purposes.

Very likely so, Mark, I wasn't aware of the military connection, otherwise I'd have probably commented differently. Now I'm really wondering what use a soldier would have for that particular design, perhaps knives like those are simply EDC's to them, just like we'd carry a Buck or Case. ::shrug::

Stunning knives Mark!!! :shock: ::not_worthy::

I read Heinlein, Clark, Herbert, Bradbury, Burroughs, R.E. Howard, Tolkien, & Asimov among others. Still read a lot. You are correct, the book was much better than the movie. That is usually the case because while a picture may be worth 1000 words it's still hard to cram a couple hundred thousand words into a 2 hour movie. I nicknamed the knife that way because the first thing I thought of when the USSF was formed was....Starship Troopers. :lol:
