Here is a lovely Miller Bros (1863-1826) sway back whittler. It still has its original polish after these years.

NICE one Beechtree!
A pocket knife is still an intimate personal possession of the individual who carries it and consequently deserves the best of materials, finish and workmanship in its production. (Quoted from Boker's 1928 cutlery catalog).

This 3" Miller Bros shadow bolster pen knife with pinless construction has some of the most beautiful mother of pearl/black lip pearl that I have ever seen.

Re: Vintage Mother Of Pearl (MOP) Knives
Sometimes you can capture the brilliance of pearl by shooting it against a black background and using two separate light sources at opposing angles.I use a Canon Power Shot SX100 set on Macro(in auto mode)and hold the camera about 3 feet away and run the zoom in until the knife fills the image(better when one end is in the upper right and the opposite in the lower left).I had been using regular lamp bulbs but am trying a setup now using LED lamps for better color resolution. I'll post some results when I get it worked out.
