It’s snowing again here. I was beginning to think that we completely dodged Winter this year!
Nope.
There were actually cherry trees blossoming last week. Dollarama has their outdoor stuff out. I was beginning to look at the camping bags...
Sigh, I’ll have to make do with memories from last year!

These were taken on the Fraser River in New Westminster in early December. The adults are my younger son and his fiancée along with her little boy and my older son’s daughter. She’s wearing a helmet because she’d been riding her scooter.
Me, my ex and both my sons, and my granddaughter were all born quite literally looking down at that river. We still enjoy a family fishing day!

Just downloaded these off my game camera...
It was a sporadic deer season...with minimal time spent in the blind. I saw a bunch of does...but passed. Ended up without a deer this season, but that's ok, I just enjoy sitting out and watching things. The first time I saw a Green Jay, I was at Choke Canyon, State Park, south of San Antonio. I thought a parrot had gotten out. I have some property about 40 miles, south of San Antonio. This is the only other place I've ever seen these. I see them, most of the time I'm in my blind, coming to the feeder. Most life-long residents of S.A. have never seen these. I don't think they are rare; however, think their habit starts south of here and goes south from there. They have come to my feeders every year. I included the stock photo, just to get a better idea of what they look like.

Maybe, I'll sit out this evening and try to get this guy. Odds are, I won't sit out...past my bed time

Wow! I’d never heard of a Green Jay. It’s certainlya beautiful bird. It reminds me of some of the birds I’ve seen in Central America.

That’s actually the first time I’ve heard of a Green Jay. Ours are Stellars Jays and they are blue. Noisy little beggars! How is the voice on the Greens?
Our birds tend to be dull colours, except for the occasional Pine Siskin or wild canary.
That’s not to say that don’t have colourful personalities!

ZG, I had to Google Stellar Jay...indeed, they are a pretty bird, too! Our blue jays are very abundant...and as you noted, very vocal. You will hear them, before you see them. We have a pair that has 3-4 young, every spring, come in to our bird feeder, at the house. When Mama and kiddos show up...it's pretty noisy!!! This is what our blues look like... Oh....and the Greens are just as noisy!

I've included a Steller's Jay picture, for others, like me, who may not have seen them (hope I picked a decent representative)

Thanks! I actually rescued two once but they didn’t make it. Couple of kids had them and were throwing them out into traffic. They hadn’t been hit but they were pretty young and I guess the stress was too much.

Seeing these birds prompted a thought of a couple that I got pictures of (not previously seen by me) on a fly-in fishing trip to Northern Quebec last summer. First is a Spruce Grouse and second a Gray Jay.

I watched a blue jay eat a two foot long garter snake outside my dining room window.

He was sitting in a dogwood tree and had the snake draped across the limb on which he was standing.

He pecked the snake pretty much to death then swallowed it head first.

Never thought of a jay doing that.

That green and stellar jay are beautiful birds.
