Yesterday was the weekly get together for lunch with my buddies day and one of them came in packing this. He said it was an impromptu eBay buy. You have to understand, his wife just died a couple of months ago so he has no regulator. I haven't seen one of 'em for years so I asked him, "whatcha gonna do with that?". He said, "measure my feet". So I asked him what he was gonna do with it once he had measured his feet. He said, "measure your feet". ::facepalm::

My first job, after my enlisted days, in the Air Force, was selling shoes at JC Penny’s...I don’t ever want to use one of those again!

And you hardly ever see any shoe sales clerks either. All the shoes are out on the sales floor. Try 'em on. Get a pair that fits, take it to the front register like in a grocery store. In my neck of the woods there are very few dedicated shoe stores.

We have a couple of fully staffed Red Wing boots stores here, but I cannot afford to shop there.

Received today from Olde Cutler. I found the clean simplicity of lines of this Pintail very appealing.

When I was a boy, Roger's Toy Shoppe carried miniature steam engines, but they were from pressed sheet metal and painted designs. Not as well machined as that one.

I really wanted one of those.

Do you ever fire that one up and if so, does it require periodic safety inspections and a permit to operate?

In Alabama, live steam scale model engines are regulated like that. I do not know at what scale those regs kick in.

I love steam engines, but I'm not sure I would ever have the cajones to actually fire an old one to a working pressure. It's sort of like playing with a live grenade. It's perfectly safe - until it's not...

I bought the Stewart engine at a tractor show. You will need a lathe and mill etc. to make the pre-made casting and buy and make many more items. some time I may run it on air. We used set up at many tractor old engine shows where we could get electric for my pumps. Michigan say's if a boiler runs under 100 lbs. you do not need permits. A club person may inspect and okay they boiler. I have one with 12 flues but need a new Gage for it. Would be best to both dry test and wet hydro test it.
I bought this one off the eBay.

Got this a couple of years ago, off "the bay".. It is two cylinder and can be run off compressed gas. Hand machined by a guy out of the Chech Republic. Just thought it looked cool and appreciated the workmanship.
