yep...dry is the way to store knives...so...all you folks with those nasty cell knives that need dry storage....here i am...

an lookie what i found at a yard sale...did not have the bucks to score this...
it is for sale...i sent the guy out to a western gun shoot in sedona this afternoon...he said he'd call if he sold it...
otherwise...if anyone is interested i will arrange the sale...out of state buyers will need to figure how to do this legally.

the only stamp i did not photograph was left side of barrel at the receiver..."COLT D 38"

What you don't find in knives you find in other neat things, the checker board, the guns you've run across, etc. All we get around here are baby clothes and tupper ware, with an occasional broken down bicycle.

Same, same around here and if you ask if they have any pocket knives, they look at you like you're some kind of hoodlum.

Yeh, I always look around first to see what they've got and then ask if they've got any knives, lighters, guitars, fiddles or mandolins. Sometimes I don't even get an answer.

My ex-in-laws were heavily into antiques (and of course, so was my ex-wife - snipe). I think the only thing in their house that was newer than about 75 years old was the air conditioner and the coffee pot. Oh yeah, and the microwave. Anyway, I was a casual collector of sticks for a while and they would pick up one here and another there and bring them to me. This is the fruit of one of their outings that I benefited from.

When I got it, the canopy was rotted and split (I think it was originally silk). On one of my trips east, I carried it along and dropped it off in Philadelphia someplace up north on, I think, Roosevelt Blvd. in the general area of the Tacony–Palmyra Bridge. I tried to Google it but didn't come up with anything. Maybe they're out of business.

Anyway, it had a tag on one of the skeleton ribs that indicated it was sold by Marshall Fields in Chicago. On the wrap strap which is secured with a ring and button was a label with the name of the original owner. The repair people put a new canopy on for me and moved the name label to the new keeper strap. I took it to Antiques Roadshow when it was in Madison Wisconsin and they said it was worth more than what it cost to have a new canopy put on so I was very happy. The umbrella people said it was made sometime around the turn of the century and Antiques Roadshow agreed.

All wood poles, brass fittings and I especially like the handle.

Nice Jerry!
I like using old items in daily life, like carrying an old pocketknife.
That is a cool and useful antique.

You would think in Oregon we would use a lot of umbrellas, but we really don't.
We are used to the rain and usually don't bother with an umbrella unless it us raining really hard.
(1 inch or more of rain per hour = raining really hard).

Active ingredient: 0.05% Permethrin, (a lovely neurotoxin)!
Kind of makes me wonder what is in the other 99.5% of the stuff is…. Agent Orange and other stuff left over from the last 2 or 3 wars? ::doh::

Online research showed it was used as a topical insecticide for scabies.
Pretty potent stuff! And I thought DEET was bad! ::paranoid::

Looks like you have some super duper black-ops bug repellant! 8)
