Well ya got me there. I never went out that far and I never fired it from a bench at a known distance. Too late to find out now. These days, if I can see the target, I can't see the sights and if I can see the sights, I can't see the target so for me it's immaterial what kind of groups it will shoot.
I know what you mean. I was just making the point that if you were looking for something accurate and reliable in a 223 semi auto for $800 today, there are better things than a Mini 14.

Very good carmillus. Were you using iron sites or optical? A lot of gunners feel optical sites on a lever gun are inappropriate and I agree if one has very fine vision. But for some of us, optics are a necessity.

Tommy, That's pretty good shootin'!
I'll agree with Garry on the use of iron sights, some times a 'scope doesn't look right sittin' on top of a lever gun. I've been wearing glasses for over 30 years but I've been shooting a 'scoped deer rifle for at least 50 years, never have regretted toting a 'scoped rifle.

As most probably know, Remington, the owner of Marlin, went out of business. Perhaps this is old news that I missed, but I just recently discovered that Marlin was purchased by Ruger. It will be interesting to see what impact this has on both brands particularly regarding quality and quality control.

I do not know without looking, however Remington did file for Bankruptcy protection after a court ruled that they could be sued for the deaths in a school shooting. Manufacture's are Normally protected under special USA laws.

Y’all must have missed the details of who bought what from the Remington bankruptcy in this thread a few weeks ago. Here’s a link to that post if you’re interested

Vista Outdoor owns a ton of good brands. The Remington name should fit well in that stable - much better than having it disappear.

I’m hoping that Ruger buying Marlin will bring Marlin back to something, at least close, to the glory days. What Freedom Group/Cerbus did to Remington and Marlin was criminal. They took two wonderful old brands and cheapened them until they weren’t worthy of the names the carried.

I’m hopeful also, and I think Ruger is just the right company to do it. Quote from the article I linked:
Vista Outdoor was the big winner and the big spender at $81.4 million, acquiring not only the big Remington ammunition plant in Lonoke, Ark., and the accessory business but also getting the Remington name and trademarks.
But the gunmaking portion of Remington, which only includes actual Remington guns, not the trademarks, was bid on by a group that no one I knew had ever heard of for $13 million. Roundhill Group, LLC's winning bid also obtained them the factory in Ilion, N.Y., the museum there and a barrel-making facility in Lenore city, Tenn.
Vista Outdoor got the Remington name and the ammunition factory, and that looks like a good fit with their existing brands. Roundhill Group bought the firearms factory but unless they (or someone else) cut some kind of deal to use the Remington name we may have seen the last of Remington firearms.

Hopefully someone will, similar to what Olin has done with the Winchester name, but if they don’t put out a quality product IMHO it’s a moot point.

Fingers crossed now that Ruger got Marlin, hopefully they will increase quality to at least there mid-level rifles. Rugar still cares about there products, so there's much to hope for in the coming days!

Thought I would post some firearm related things. I have collected Curio & Relic firearms for many years. Since 1985 to be exact. Most are from the early 1900's through more recent firearms.
Here are a few that I have that are influenced by the 1911 design.
Stars made in Spain all from the early 60's.
Top left is a Star A with proof marks indicating police use. With lanyard loop on backstrap. ChamberedIn standard 9mm parabellum (or 9mm Luger)
Both on the right are Star-AS chambered in 9mm parabellum with thicker 1911a1 style backstraps
Bottom left: Star Super in chambered in 9mm largo.
A Ballister_Molina Argentina made by Hispano Argentina Fábrica de Automóviles SA (HAFDASA) Chambered in 45 ACP.
These were produced from 1938 to 1953
More to come. Hope you enjoy.

Appreciate it. Years ago there was a company making reproductions of them, as you can see in the first photo I put a set on one of the Stars, just had to mod it a bit to fit.

Now I see it. I didn't enlarge the photo the first time. I just have a feeling that style would feel comfortable in my hand.

There is a very interesting article in one of our major newspapers today about firearm ownership and the changing demographic of some of your cities and states. There are some comments about the up coming election and how it may effect things. Just interesting reading from a observer from another country. Keep the photos coming, great reading about and seeing some of the great guns that you have, and the country side and your families. Good to see families and grandparents and grand kids spending time in the bush together and passing on traditions and skills. Keep em' coming, take care and stay well.

Was raining here most of the day. So a good day to take a few of my pistols out and do some preventative maintenance. Here are a couple I did. Both are 1911a1 varients.
The first is a Frankenpistol. I bought it from an older gentleman who was in a gun club I was a member of back in 1982. When I bought it, it had a Colt slide, a National Match barrel and matched barrel bushing. Match barrel link, It has a vintage rear Micro Adjustable rear site and raised front sight, and adjustable trigger. It had an alloy lower frame, but it cracked at the mainspring housing pin several years later. I fit and installed an Essex frame, polished the rails, intalled a wide flat beavertail, extended slide stop/release, and wide spur hammer, and installed a new match barrel & bushing. Ive polished the feed ramp and beveled and polished the inside of the ejection port of the slide. I did all that back around 1995. It is still a good shooter today. I used to use it in club matches

This next pistol is a Springfield Armory 1911a1 I bought for my Step-Father for Fathers day back in 1992. He passed away back in 2011 and my Mom returned it to me. The only thing I've changed on it is the grips, I've polished the rails on the slide, and I changed out the Hammer, sear & disconnector. The reason being that back in the 90's for some reason, Springfield did away with the half-cock on their 1911's. So I wanted to put it back to the old standards.
This is a photo of it broken down when I cleaned it.
Here is a picture of the Springfield assembled, along with a picture Of my old Camillus Fighting knife I bought new in 1973. I used to keep it on my LBE when I was in the Army and it made a trip to Nakhon Phanom Thailand with me.
Also pulled out this toy to go through and lube and fuction check. A Yugo M77 in 308. I've changed the stock, grip, added a scope, bi-pod and different flash hider. I like the Yugos, although on a AKM design, the receiver is milled and about 1mm thicker than the AK's. Accurate rifle, of course the 308 is inherently accurate.
And lastly just wiped this one down. A Ruger Super Red Hawk in Clint Eastwoods favorite caliber

Had a interest in them when I was young, Was in the Military active for 4 years and Army Reserve & National Guard for 16, Joined Gun Clubs, took an armorers course while I was in the Army Reserves and worked with the Armorer, and I worked for 2-1/2 years in The Weapons Systems Division Small Arms Shop at Anniston Army Depot. One of my jobs I held during my 34 years at Anniston Army Depot. Plus I have many tech manuals and field manuals for many different weapons systems I've collected over the last 38 years.

Nope, I never got into that aspect of the hobby. that was done by an older gentleman who used to live near Huntsville AL.and would do custom work on pistols. He was an excellant gunsmith and machinist. He passed away sometime near 1999. I really miss him. If you went to his shop, he didn't mind if you hung around in the shop. Plus he had a firing range in his back lot behind his shop. He was the one who taught me how to throat and polish feedramps on the barrels, and how to dress the locking lugs for better lockup.

I stopped by the CMP store in Anniston a few years ago. Unfortunately it was during the Obama administration. He had banned re-importation of military surplus arms so the racks were near empty. It was sad. I’d like to go back now that they have some inventory again.
